What other coach has left?
So I ask again, any chance JA ends up back with us, or has the situation with AZ run sour? I've followed the reports about how the players found out about Lloyd via Twitter; great job, Robbins/Heeke. So I completely understand if our guys are ambivalent about continuing with a different coaching staff.

But...I'm going to put a little faith in two factors. First, Lloyd is seemingly also a witch, and I like his chances of convincing many on our roster of returning. And secondly, UofA is just sexy af to 18 and 19 year olds, right? It's hard to find too many college campuses/towns as appealing as our alma mater, and call me hokey, but I still think our basketball program carries a certain prestige/mystique that remains uniquely attractive, especially with our current crop of ex-Cats in the NBA. It's an impressive group.

Here's hoping JA remains in Tucson. He could have a huge season next year.

I feel like Akinjo is gone-gone.

But I feel CTL can convince Kerr to stay.

If we can get Tyty and Kerr to be our starting guards, and bring in either KJ or Nowell to still come here, I’d be happy with our 1&2 rotation.

What is the likelihood that Akinjo and Tommy talked and they both agreed the styles didn't really mesh and a mutual parting of ways made sense?

Name one instance where UA game a check to anyone. All you have is Book Richardson saying that Ayton was paid $10k. But if that were the case he would have been ineligible to play. UA didn't pay anyone, and none of the NOA says so.

ARIZONA

“Me and coach Jack Murphy have a really good relationship he had recruited me a little bit at Northern Arizona and when he first came to the U of A he recruited me. When Tommy Lloyd got the job, since then me and him have been facetiming like twice a day. He is expressing the fact that I’m his main priority and he’s not looking for anybody else to commit or sign or anything like that until it is me. He is really emphasizing the fact that I’m a priority to him."

WHEN WILL A DECISION COME AND WHAT WILL MATTER?

“I’m not in any rush at all. I’m going to talk about it with my family, but I think that I’m going to shoot for the end of the month or start of the new month. Somewhere around then.

“What’s going to help me make my decision is just to keep talking to and building relationships with everybody on these staffs and keep learning everything about these programs. I want to keep learning as much as I can because without taking visits it is going to be really hard.”

Arizona and Kansas battle with Kentucky also putting in a lot of effort here.

Also the possibility he commits somewhere and ends up in the G League anyways.

In regards to his recruitment, Kentucky seems to be in a good spot coming into the final weeks before his commitment date. It has been noted that John Calipari has taken over as the primary recruitment, and whenever Coach Cal puts the full-court press on, other schools have a huge obstacle to overcome.

It should be noted though that Arizona seems to be making a late push to keep him in state and help Tommy Lloyd start off his first season with a bang.

Coach Tommy might be putting on a full court press of his own.. :P

TyTy was on with Paul Biancardi yesterday. I watched the entire interview. TyTy said location, immediate playing time and relationships were key. Besides Lloyd FaceTiming twice a day he says he has a great relationship with Murph and he’s close with Dalen Terry since they were 7. Said DT has been recruiting him hard. Also of note Arizona is only school he’s been able to visit but he may unofficially visit a few on his list. Says he’s likely to decide the end of this month. I thought he talked best about Arizona and Kansas FWIW.

To me it seems like that's basically what Lloyd was saying when he said, "I'm going to spend a lot of time getting to know them, and in the process, they'll be getting to know me. So, hopefully, by the time we know each other, there won't be any need for me to 'sell' them on staying on." - 1290 interview with Rich Herrera

For sure. I think a lot of our guys fit this system far better than Miller's system. Benn would be a killer in this system. Kerr would have more 3s to take. Akinjo could show scouts he can run a pro style offense. I think that staying will really help these kids. And they already got chemistry together and are a top 20 squad rolling into next year. It's a good situation. I understand how upset they were but I hope they realize their situation is actually pretty nice. And better yet, they could be known as the squad that jump-started Lloyd's tenure here and be a big reason in his success early on

I just don't think Akinjo fits the type of PG that Lloyd's offense needs. He's a much better fit for Miller.

I mean he doesn't have to re-pitch Arizona or the program in general. He needs to sell his vision on what a "Lloyd Team" will look like and play so they can come to a consensus if it's a right fit for both parties.

Since none of our current players are OAD's, obviously, then development within his system will be key as they all wish to play at the next level.

Well, as long as we get Tyty, we're good. Kinda think we need Akinjo or Tyty to really be competitive next year. Otherwise, that backcourt's looking a little thin. I'm sure Lloyd has some transfer targets.

Akinjo and Kerr are in the portal, KJ Simpson decommitted. Currently as it stands I do not think we have any legit PG on our roster. At this point I think the guy with the most ball handling history is Dalen Terry, but he could not handle the 1 in a P5 school IMO. PG has been our biggest hit with player movement so far and is by far our biggest need.

Terry has 38 assists and 31 TOs. Not PG numbers for sure.

And is such a poor shooter, not 2G numbers either.

I'd agree with this. We went from 2 legit PG's an a high potential incoming freshman to a guy who struggled to initiate as a SF being the only potential option. Terry is better as a wing who is a plus handling and passing, not as a PG where his issues with speed and creation for others multiply.

Ain't too many TJ's in basketball at any level.

I remember when people thought he was a poor man's Aaron Craft. Now he's a 5 year NBA vet who repeatedly has demonstrated he's one of the more underrated guys in the league.
