Over two dozen schools have been tainted by the scandal, including Duke, Oregon, Louisville, North Carolina State, Creighton and Texas.

I know its the last sentence but shocked the mighty Duke is included in an FSPN article.

Tucson papers ran the same thing. It's a ridiculous, cherry picked quote with zero context for sensationalism's sake.

So, a lot of modern journalism.

Vitale is so confused. Luckily, the Vitale Era has been in decline for some time. His opinions don't carry the same weight they maybe used to. He's just another talking head.

Is it just me or does the difference between Book and Bland's sentences seem like a pretty decent jump. I understand Book took more money, but isn't the issue the act itself? The quantity of money seems important and should have some higher repercussions, but probation and 100 hours of community service versus jail time appears drastically different to me.

Comparing the Code/Dawkins/Bland convictions and sentencing and Book's seems to be a bit of an anomaly, at least to me. When I saw the headline guys (Code/Dawkins) sentences I remember thinking (some time back) a comparative sentence for Book might be 2 weeks in jail.

Now I get that's not how the legal system works, but still...seems disproportionate.

18-24 months was the guideline.

I think any jailtime for this stuff is crap. Feel what you want about Book, but going to jail for this is stupid. Also, it's interesting that this whole saga was gonna bring down the sport we love, and this is what its come down to.

I was commenting more on Vitale's weird fixation on AZ. He insists on making us the scapegoat for all that ails college hoops. Even as -- literally -- every prominent program has recently been found to violate NCAA rules (at times egregiously), Vitale has this blinkered regard for AZ and Miller. Clearly, the guy does not like Sean Miller. So with all due respect to Mr. Vitale, fuck him.

I wonder if that was due to Lute calling him "Dukie" to his face? Although Vitale said he took no offense to it. http://www.espn.com/dickvitale/vcolumn0 ... tbias.html" target="_blank

Shit, Zagoria took a correspondent job with the Arizona Daily Star on the express hope that this was . . . something.

So now he's basically making shit up and taking quotes out of context to justify his employment.

“I have no knowledge of Sean Miller paying players or attempting to pay them … I was on trial no one else. Again I apologize to the University of Arizona, President Robbins and the kind and great people of Tucson for this. Thank you Tucson and all the Wildcats across the world!”

Can't forgive Book. However, I do feel bad for him. This sentencing was bullshit and it's the media's fault that it has been transformed into the monster that it is.
Without their obsession with us, we'd be sitting pretty in the eyes of the public like SC, Auburn, etc.

So when will the media let it go, stop accusing Sean Miller and Bobby Robbins of made up shit, and give up trying to protect an employee and colleague who fucked up majorly?

Never. They won't, it was a win win for them and it continues to be so. They get all the clicks and headlines for the last two years, if Sean Miller is guilty then they were right and are heralded as geniuses for calling him out early. If they are wrong and he is innocent (which at this point he clearly is) they will claim that Book is the fall guy or Miller just narrowly escaped persecution. I can't see this ever being something that rolls over. The program will forever be looked at as dirty by the casual or rival fan, they will be backed up by a media that is just benefiting from the gold mine Book created.

I really feel this will be the case unless Miller and the University goes for their throat after the NCAA has completed their investigation and dealt out the repercussions.

And of course, the least salacious / damaging to Arizona news won't get reported because a) it doesn't bleed and b) it might require a mea culpa for all too eager reporters who've been covering the trial.

So the public perception remains that Book was paying players for years and Miller had to have known ("or else he's an idiot") - despite none of that being true.

Nope. The NCAA has no rhyme or reason to what they do enforcement wise, they make it up as they see fit. So who really knows what will happen.

Even if Mike Luke were right, Arizona would take the NCAA to court.

On another note, can you imagine a playoff ban for an assistant gone rogue who nonetheless paid no players or put Arizona at any advantage, and no real sanctions for UNC after the discovery of years of fake classes that kept eligible and graduated their players?

11.2.2 says money earned by coaches outside of contracts (assistants and head coaches) must be disclosed and reported annually ( this all happened in 17 and Book was arrested before that could happen) and be in line with school policy. Since this all happened within 6 months I doubt that would signify anything beyond probation

The wins from that year's tourney were vacated. Nothing else, and unlike the current situation, the player really was found to have been paid by an agent.

That is the most vague and thus the most threatening rule for us. A million things can be shoehorned under it, which is part of the reason proportionality and precedent matter so much as we talk to the NCAA.

We could UNC our way out of that in 5 seconds because it incorporates institutional standards. We just have to say institutional standards allow de minimus outside earning, and the only issue is the source.
