This is true, however, I wouldn’t expect bigger NIL deals for kids to come to Oregon on Nike’s behalf like what happened with Evans and Cook here.

So what happened then, Choo? Were Evans and Cook anomalies in the bigger scheme of this new era? I don't see why Oregon can't keep on plucking up these elite players. Oregon's athletic program is stronger and better funded than Arizona's, and I can't see that train slowing down any time soon.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 5:16 pmThis is true, however, I wouldn’t expect bigger NIL deals for kids to come to Oregon on Nike’s behalf like what happened with Evans and Cook here.
Oregon basketball was facing irrelevance during a time where they’re trying to jump conferences, so Knight jumped in. I’d only expect it to continue until they do get that call from the B1G or Knight dies, whichever is first.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 6:04 pmSo what happened then, Choo? You must be kidding. It's much worse in football, of course, but it's already pervasive in hoops.
Are we pretending money didn’t exist in recruiting battles before? Because that would be weird.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 9:58 amYou must be kidding. It's much worse in football, of course, but it's already pervasive in hoops.
NIL is a seismic shift in the culture and business of college sports.
No one's pretending. But making it legitimate is a game-changer of immeasurable magnitude. If you can't see that, I can't help.CardiacCats97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 10:24 amAre we pretending money didn’t exist in recruiting battles before? No it isn't. It's just out in the open versus under the table. There will be no "seismic shift". The haves will continue to have.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 10:44 amNo one's pretending. There’s only one public 2023 recruit that’s not a commitment in Cody Williams. He plays his recruitment very quietly and Tommy Lloyd recruits very quietly. I wouldn’t expect anything of worth in this thread for a good while.BBQ wildcat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 2:49 pm I keep coming to this thread hoping there is some news about recruits/commitments for 2023. But this is almost getting as bad as the Football Conference Expansion thread.

It will be interesting (if we ever find out) to find out what kind of NIL deals Kwame/Mookie got. I had this argument with a poster who ceased posting some time ago (initials SS). I predicted that Phil would take advantage of the NIL and screw teams like AZ over with his Asian Child Slave Labor $$$ but was told by SS that this would never happen. I would love to see his take now.IndianaZonaFan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 4:34 am Yes.
Sounds to me like we were in a great place to get Evans and Cook both to come here. Then Phil Knight threw his checkbook to secure them with NIL.
Oregon is trying to stay relevant through recruiting so the Big Ten will come calling.
I went to the Shadow Mountain championship game when Mike Bibby was on the team (I went to Apollo).OriginalAZ wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:14 pm Perry High School is really close to where I live. I would like to see this kid Cody Williams play. I've never really gone to a high school basketball game except for when I was in high school. Is it weird to go to a high school game if you have no affiliation with the school?
Wow! I grew up in a small town in Indiana. Nearly everyone in the entire school district attended the games on weekends. The town was 2k, the seating capacity was close to 2.5k, and sold out in most games. Many of the high school gyms in Indiana are bigger than many mid-major gyms. Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette (Purdue country) has a seating capacity of 7.2k. That is a high school gym and normal capacity for the big schools. Of course, in Indiana basketball is a religion (same in Kentucky). I played in stage band for varsity games (when I didn't play), and that was a lot of fun.Alieberman wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:46 pm I’ve never been to a high school basketball game. My dad played high school basketball in Indiana in the 1950's.Catintheheat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 11:14 pm Wow! I grew up in a small town in Indiana. Only time I ever did was my senior year in high school since we were the best team in the state and won the state championship. Had a great time going on the road to other schools during the playoffs and to the Sun's arena for the title game. If we had sucked I wouldn't have gone.Alieberman wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:46 pm I’ve never been to a high school basketball game. This includes my high school years
I was at everyone of those games that season except when they lost to Marcos. Lee Cummard and that team was special. Remember how packed the Mt. View games were that year? Good memories.ASUHATER! wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 2:46 pmOnly time I ever did was my senior year in high school since we were the best team in the state and won the state championship. really hope it’s being done quietly because he should be the clear top undecided prospect on our board in the 2023 class. probably the only no brainer guy left to go after in the domestic 2023 classChooChooCat wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 2:35 pm Cody Williams has completed a visit to Colorado and has visits set up to USC, UCLA, and LSU. Not sure what the hold up is from Arizona’s POV. They may be handling this quietly, I honestly don’t know.

I'm guessing its because Bronny is a really stupid name.CardiacCats97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:18 am Why aren’t we in on Bronny while schools like UCLA, USC, and Oregon are?
This has been my impression too. If he had a different last name, I wonder if he'd even be ranked as high as he is.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 11:57 amBecause he's not that good...CardiacCats97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:18 am Why aren’t we in on Bronny while schools like UCLA, USC, and Oregon are?

I don't think Bronny is a bad kid or anything of the sort. It's just not a recruitment you would bother getting involved in unless you just wanted some spotlight.dovecanyoncat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 12:28 pmAlso, he might not pass CTL's first filter: character.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 11:57 amBecause he's not that good...CardiacCats97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:18 am Why aren’t we in on Bronny while schools like UCLA, USC, and Oregon are?

We're not going to be involved in recruitments that we don't think we can win. Get used to it.CardiacCats97 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 6:31 amI do too.
