If Duval came here, PJC would get minutes when Duval needed a rest. That's it.

I feel bad for PJC. A big issue is height, and he has no control over that. Everyone who I know who's met him says he is a really nice kid. I think that's part of his problem, is that he is almost too nice. He loses confidence and is sensitive when a guy like Michael Jordan would say **** you.

I just don't see the point where he is really the guy we want doing anything but getting some minutes in the rotation. He has had a lot of chances, we're late in his junior year and we're seeing another fade out.

Yeah, I know but from what little I know we are a long shot for him, correct?

The better question should be: Is Miller putting the full court press on him currently??

You gotta figure if he does we can at least be right there at the end

True that....Miller is a Witch! Interesting quote by Brian Bowen recently calling the U of A 'a wing school' with all the wings we've sent to the NBA....and that was a draw for him.

Amazing that we've seem to have underperformed with the PG position in CSM's tenure (TJ being the huge exception of course)....of course Josiah Turner was a big bust. And the rumors surrounding PJC and his father pressuring CSM not to over-recruit him ie PG (is this true?....I read this somewhere here I think).

Would love for us to land good-great PGs year in / year out....especially 3-4 year players. Thoughts?

He looked remarkably good on defense last night. A couple moments reminded me of TJs D. Hopefully that sticks.

Kadeem got leveled by one, too. Arizona has it out for their own point guards.

Parker was out there on his own doing a one man press. There was no one around to call out the screen.

3 assists to 2 TOs.

Posted the stats in the 2016-17 thread, both our PGs have been meh. PJC 3-5 and 9 assists to 7 turnovers in the last four, Kadeem 9-22 and 14 assists to 11 turnovers.

He doesn't get nearly enough credit for all the wins and running the offense.

Kinda sucks though because in tight games you HAVE to have Kadeem in there for his defense, and Trier takes up the other wing. So now you have Rawle on the bench, who has been nothing short of amazing offensively the last 3 weeks or so and an especially clutch shooter.

Have pjc get you there, and then bring in RA, KA, and AT as closers.

PJC is so small, we could just sneak him in there as our 6th player on the court and hope nobody notices.

We need better D from the wing. It's hard to sacrifice Kadeem, but we need Trier, Simmons and Alkins to scrap for minutes.

NBA projection be damned, pjc is a solid college point guard, runs our offense efficiently, and should start.

I don't know, I sort of see this as a little bit of an overreaction to last night.

The 5 games prior, he averaged 3.1 ppg and 1.6 apg. PJC's issue has always been his ability to be solid on a consistent basis. The flashes are there, but the night in, night out production has not been.

Exactly. Never seen a more inconsistent player in my 35 years of watching UA basketball. He has in prior years been much more consistently good at home, and awful on the road, now you just can't tell which PJC will turn up as evidenced last night.

There may have been worse of course, just don't remember. :|

Chris Rodgers was another "which one are we getting tonight" guy, but that was somewhat mitigated by his usually consistent and excellent defense.

Best pound the ball into the court player the Cats ever had too.

Dude sure loved to stand and dribble in place.

Also talk racist smack in the rec center.

From the outside perspective, PJC seems to have a huge thing with confidence tied to his shots going down. When he makes jumpers, he is far more aggressive and makes things happen.

He also has other games where he plays 15-17 minutes, doesn't attempt a shot and has almost no impact.

Great shooting game for him and 20pts is a career high. He is still a liability on defense but he can make up for it with performances like that

This is spot on with my observations, too. And after watching that documentary on him in high school and watching his stock decline player ranking update after player ranking update, and how his dad would jump him about his game, I think he is constantly looking over his shoulder. It is more than just shot confidence...it seems to be overall confidence, though certainly, that squares with what you observe that his whole game gets better when he makes a couple.

Take away the threat of the bench, or even the threat of criticism like when he came back with a still injured foot and started dropping dimes to Dusan like an old pro, and he becomes a different player.

The thing I see with him is he is scared of losing time and making a mistake, but if you just give him the keys with no competition, like when Kadeem was sick last year, he starts trying to do too much. It seems difficult to find that middle ground, between him doing everything tight as a tourniquet fearing a benching and him trying to shine when he has the floor unabated.

And both behaviors are typically associated with self-esteem issues. The fear of rejection, and the swagger when accepted. He has gotten over his issues playing in foreign environments without crowd adulation, so he has shown ability to grow. Consistency is a huge ongoing issue with his play, and I would bet that, beyond the actual playing deficiencies that come with being 5'8" and not possessing otherworldly speed or hops, self-confidence is at the root of much of his uneven play.

Really stepped up when we needed him the last 2 games. You got to give credit where credit is deserved. He didn't pout and let his shortened minutes get him down...speaks volumes about the kid.

And if he continues knocking down 3's and running the offense like he does, especially against zones, I'm afraid to say he will be a key piece in having a deep run in the Tourney. ;)
