Parker Jackson-Cartwright
He is going to be a very good player. I already like seeing him in the game subbing for McConnell. He's one of those players who will make things happen, and never cringe when he gets the ball.

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Actually outplaying TJ tonight since McConnell can't play any defense.
PJC was in when the Cats took the lead. TJ back in and SDSU is ahead again,

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Feel so comfortable when he has the ball. He is so calm and collected, heady. Plays like a senior in a weird way. He'll be a media darling in March when leading the team.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Kid has exceeded expectations. Dont want to sbe Mr Obvious, but we dont win tonight without his solid first half minutes. That game was on the verge of getting away
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Yes. The freshmen kept us in it in the first half.
Right where I want to be.

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
PJC has 10 assists and 1 TO through 6 games. Absolutely love how good he is with the ball, such handles, such vision!
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
He certainly can play. Nothing against TJ (love TJ). But, PJC presents different problems for the opposition. Solid for a Frosh!

Incredible. I am also going to add that he does not hesitate when taking the ball among the trees.dcZONAfan wrote:PJC has 10 assists and 1 TO through 6 games. Absolutely love how good he is with the ball, such handles, such vision!

Also:
PJC = 1.50 PPA
TJM = 0.98 PPA
I don't feel bad at all when Parker is on the floor.

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Seems calm, makes good decisions. Hit some pretty nice shots. I like what I'm seeing. Keep working hard kid.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Reminds me a bit of Damon (size, speed, ball control). He has the potential to a special player at AZ.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
I'm a huge fan
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Playing very well. Hope he gets some second half minutes against the zags

He's going to be huge in March. Really fun watching him get better every game.

Man, his demeanor reminds me of Gardner. He is going to be great for us, a media darling too.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Best backup pg since JT in 1998. Kid is absolutely rock solid. No worries when he subs for TJ.

It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Looks like the PG position is in great hands going forward.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
I like this kid. Smart (hi bball iq), patient, defense getting better, took some good shots.
Seems like he has long arms for a kid only 5'9". Not sure if these boomer eyes are playing a tricks or what.

10.0 Assists/40 minutes
15.3 Points/40 minutes
7.1 Rebounds/40 minutes
1.63 PPA
8.50 A/TO
Those kind of numbers and he should start over just about anybody on the planet.

97 says that CSM lives on KenPom, so I'm sure that CSM is taking notice. The future is bright people.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Miller's talking about playing him alongside McConnell at times. Something I was hoping to see. Two guys who can advance the ball, set up others and hit shots.
Right where I want to be.

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
That's the deadliest backcourt combination we have. On offense. On defense, it's still pretty damn good, too, but not optimal. Miller still sounds concerned about TJ guarding some opposing 2's. I say fine, but run with that backcourt when you can. And if you throw Ristic in the post, you've got a real shot-in-the-arm on offense (with cost). Sometimes it's just what you want.gumby wrote:Miller's talking about playing him alongside McConnell at times. Something I was hoping to see. Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Here are the PER's for the 10 top rated players in the Pac-12 (for games through 12/6/14) with (MPG) played:
37.7 Josh Scott (30.0)
37.5 Robert Upshaw (16.8)
35.1 Jakob Poelti (24.3)
31.5 Delon Wright (31.1)
29.0 Parker Jackson-Cartwright (9.6)
28.1 Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (27.1)
27.9 Stefan Nastic (29.7)
27.8 Gary Payton (36.3)
27.7 Dakarai Tucker (30.4)
26.3 Kevon Looney (30.4)
Is it really unreasonable to believe that PJC should be playing significantly more minutes on a consistent basis?

Defense. That's just the way it is. Some things never change.
Right where I want to be.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
CSM has said that once PJC's defense improves, he will get more pt. What stat do coaches use that help them evaluate defense?

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
He defends the point really well already. He's a smart defender, stays in front of his man, prevents dribble penetration, and fights over screens along the perimeter. Just not at TJ's level. Who is, really? But there are some 2's that TJ can guard, too, in which case you can play both your PG's alongside in stretches.

I'm not sure of that. PJC has not played enough minutes to make me think those figures aren't skewed some. TJ is always in the game when it is on the line.KaibabKat wrote:T.J McConnell Defensive Rating - 86.4.

No. They are playing at different times and TJ is playing against some different players sometimes. PJC will be very good and may be better. This is an example of how statistics don't tell you crap.KaibabKat wrote:T.J McConnell Defensive Rating - 86.4.

Miller barely played PJC against Gonzaga and several times ran York as the pg instead of PJC with Pitts as the 2 guard.
Erlich Bachmann: Richard wrote the code, yes, but the inspiration was clear. Let me ask you something. How fast do you think you could jack off every guy in this room? Cause I know how long it would take me. And I could prove it.

And that was a mistake. In the 9 minutes Parker played against Gonazaga he had 3 assists, 2 points, and 2 reboundsDaryl Zero wrote:

Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Yep, York played a total of 5 minutes at the point against Gonzaga - it was an ugly 5 minutes.
Re: Parker Jackson-Cartwright
Folks, calm down.
McConnell is an incredibly smart player who is the leader of this team and the right starting PG.
That said, it's pretty clear that PJC is going to be so much better at the 1 in the future than McConnell ever could be. He's incredibly skilled on the ball whether he's creating or taking it himself and more importantly he is always in the right spot for boards, on defense, whatever. He's limited by his lack of experience and strength (though he's finished through contact multiple times).
Using his lack of playing time at key moments and York running at the 1 instead isn't an indictment of PJC. Rather, just an example of Miller's stubbornness along with the need to have experience on the court and critical junctures.
