Time Outs
Bob Kemp has been talking about how Miller is using too many time outs early on and it is a cause for why U of A is not scoring late in games when they need a bucket.
Completely agree. The final plays in close games have left a lot to be desired. Saving a TO or two would allow for better plays in those situations.

I do not see good play calls late in close games. I completely agree with Bob in that saving a time out or two would allow for better play calls to be drawn up, leading to better chances at buckets and points.

You know who always left time outs on the clock? Lute Olson.
He wanted the players to win (or lose) the game.

I am hoping for threads on such mind blowing subjects as dribbling, free throw technique, style of shoe lace tying, jersey length, player facial hair, and what kinda of pizza they like the most as soon as possible.
we need to discuss this.

Don't forget jump balls. We've yet to see anyone break down the number of first possessions that Tarc has secured this year. But I suspect the numbers are poor and reflect poorly on Sean Miller.scumdevils86 wrote:I am hoping for threads on such mind blowing subjects as dribbling, free throw technique, style of shoe lace tying, jersey length, player facial hair, and what kinda of pizza they like the most as soon as possible.

The ASU was the first time Kaleb did not win the tip in recent memory. Although most times it seems someone on Arizona threw the ball away, poor passing. Someone should make a thread about that.

Bob Kemp says we shouldn't vaccinate our children. Completely agree. He also says Ariana Grande is the bomb. This is why he is the best.
Bob Kemp also says if you call a timeout early and then score or stop the other team, those buckets don't count as much as the ones at the end. Completely agree.

Coach K is the master at preserving TOs late in games.
What a surprise, he also happens to be the best coach in the college game.

Re: Time Outs
What difference would it make anyway if Miller had some late TOs?
The guy can not draw up an offensive scheme to save his life.
Does anyone remember the end of the Wisconsin game?

try being a NBA/college basketball coach and not calling TOs in a sport that is so incredible swung by momentum.

I sure you appreciated Coack K not calling timeout early in the second half as we went from four down to 11 ahead in four minutes. Killer momentum shift. Game over.

Was K born that way? Oops... I guess not. In his first 5 years at Duke, he made the NCAA tourney twice but did not get past the first weekend.
Duke was the National runner-up the just 3 years before he arrived and had 4 Final 4's in the previous 18 seasons.

I did not equate preserving TOs with coaching greatness.
I said he is one of the greatest coaches of all time and the best in the college game right now and this is because he understands the game better than everyone else. Preserving TOs and making the most of them is one factor of that.

But because so many of you on this forum are so simplistic in your thinking, if I praise greatness and excellence that automatically means I am a fan. Or if I am critical of the Wildcats and Miller that means I secretly am an ASU fan or something.

Arizona was a complete dumpster fire in the years preceding his arrival. His achievements in his first 5 years hear surpass by a wide margin the 2 greatest college coaches of all time, in their first 5 years at marquee programs.

Well considering Miller has been in major college coaching for 23 years and a head coach since 2004, you would think he would have a little more figured out by now in terms of managing a game within the game.Olsondogg wrote:Personally, Rocky, I like when you compare the results of a coach who has been coaching since 1975 against the coach who's been doing it since 2004.

Outstanding work Rocky.

Re: Time Outs
And you are old enough to not be so obtuse or absolute in your assessment. Your inflated view of your perceptive abilities with respect to coaching skill signals your callow perspective. If you don't like the way Miller manages a "game within a game", especially related to TO use, you would have HATED Lute.RockyRaccoon wrote:Well considering Miller has been in major college coaching for 23 years and a head coach since 2004, you would think he would have a little more figured out by now in terms of managing a game within the game.Olsondogg wrote:Personally, Rocky, I like when you compare the results of a coach who has been coaching since 1975 against the coach who's been doing it since 2004.

If you gathered the 20 foremost authorities in the game of basketball and asked them who the brightest stars in the coaching ranks under the age of 45 are, I would guess Miller would be in everyone's Top 5 and most Top 3. What he has achieved in his short tenure is remarkable by any standard.
But you dismiss it as meaningless... Because he hasn't gotten as far as you want him to. Wah! You must still be young enough to know everything.
John Wooden had coached 16 years in College before making his first Final 4, and was 52 before he won a National title. Should have realized that if he couldn't figure it out by age 50, he wasn't going to.

Yes something about all this reminds me of two snotty well to do 40 something Englishmen having a conversation at a pub all snoggered up.Longhorned wrote:Watching RockyRacoon try to take on Gumby is like watching that drunk jerk hide from security at the aquarium and them jump into the shark tank.

Re: Time Outs
Can we just move this to the "Help" board so it gets fewer responses.
Holy ****, what a waste of bandwidth.
