Both Rooks and Buechler had long and productive NBA careers. Can you imagine future NBAers sitting out as freshmen?

Very sad day, can't believe he has died. Will never forget the double overtime game against Duke. Sean played a huge part in that victory. Condolences to his family.

Very sad. Many wonderful memories of Sean in McKale including the Shaq shutdown. A case can be made that he had one of the top 10 NBA careers for former Wildcats. I hope that he does Rest In Peace.

Such a great guy. Thanks for the memories at McKale, at the Park Student Union, in Beth's car with your rolled up legs, at the pool at the Hollows, and at the library.
Value every day.

Didn't know him personally but was of my era, saw him on campus virtually every day, and always seemed to be one of the most affable and friendly players on the team.
2016 can feel free to end early. RIP Wookie.

Really sad. I was watching old NBA clips yesterday and he was playing for the Lakers.
In all honesty, I was too young to remember his AZ days, but everything since then paints a very positive picture of the man Rooks was. Condolences to his family.

Never got a chance to meet him, but I've probably heard more "___ is a good guy/amazing person" stories about Sean Rooks than any other U of A player. RIP.
And the passing in that Duke/Arizona video is a thing of beauty.

Christ. Proof positive that the best go the earliest.
If any of our current centers had Rooks' footwork and post moves even as a sophomore, this program wouldn't be bleeding over Terrance Ferguson today.
There is nothing enough great to say about Sean Rooks, one of the true self-made Wildcats, from the Gumbies up. Loved the way he played, loved his intensity winning out over his asthma, loved his on- and off-court persona.
A 360-degree winner. RIP.

Was on the mall that day when the picture with Othick was taken. I remember giving him crap about wearing that PITT hat. He was such a great Wildcat and I'm so sorry to hear he passed away at only 46. Crazy.
Sean Rooks, who died Tuesday night just hours after interviewing with the Knicks, reportedly suffered a heart attack while eating dinner in Philadelphia.
According to a report by TMZ Sports, Rooks, 46, suffered from heart disease. The gossip website cites a representative for the Philadelphia medical examiner's office in its reporting.
The coroner who performed the initial exam of the ex-NBA player's body "believes Rooks died of heart disease," TMZ reported. Further testing is needed to confirm the finding.
Rooks, a veteran of 12 NBA seasons, interviewed with new Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek, Phil Jackson and Steve Mills on Tuesday. He was a likely candidate to join Hornacek's staff.
"We are all saddened and shocked by the passing of Sean Rooks, especially since we had just met with him yesterday after the possibilities of joining our coaching staff," Hornacek said in a statement. "His ability to work with big players and his passion for coaching were undeniable."
The former University of Arizona star, who was the 30th overall pick in the 1992 draft, was a player development coach with the 76ers. He joined the 76ers organization in 2014 after spending five seasons coaching in the NBA D-League.
The 6-10 center, a New York native who played his high school ball in California, played for seven teams during his pro career.
