Chase Jeter
Can't believe there isn't a thread yet.
Dude is the MVP of this team, if he goes down or fouls out, then this team is in serious trouble. Guy has amazing footwork down low and is the best defender.

Re: Chase Jeter
Completely obliterating the expectations I had of him. His footwork down low is insanely good. Sometimes it feels like automatic points as soon as he gets a touch down low. Not to mention his defense...dude draws like 4 offensive fouls a game.
Re: Chase Jeter
It's interesting to see him develop despite the lack of big man development in the SM system. How bad are Ira Lee and that Akot kid?

Yeah...tell that to the number 1 NBA recruit. Wasn't a family freind paid to send him to Kansas and he still declined.enfuego wrote:It's interesting to see him develop despite the lack of big man development in the SM system. How bad are Ira Lee and that Akot kid?

Just remember the #1 rule of college basketball:
If you are from the west coast you will not have success at Duke. I look forward to Boogie Ellis's future transfer from Duke and us reaping the benefits of that.

Re: Chase Jeter
Chase Jeter is really smart. He gets everything about how to play team defense, and he always seems to be in the right place on both sides of the ball. He knows his own strengths and limitations, and plays accordingly. I know that technical foul in Maui was a boneheaded reaction, but man, it’s so damn frustrating to let some refs make their bad calls while genuflecting to their authority.

Re: Chase Jeter
Yeah I gave him a complete pass on that. Refs may be bigger assholes than head coaches. How can you not let something like that slide given the situation? God forbid you pull the player aside and tell him to control himself or next time you’ll get T’d up.Longhorned wrote:Chase Jeter is really smart. Re: Chase Jeter
Head coaches get a lot of rope. Players followed by assistant coaches get very little of any.
I do think Jeter picked up a lot of good defensive coaching while at Duke and he is excelling in Miller's packline

He needs more touches down low (pause). I agree that he is this team's most important piece.

I think taking a charge should be credited as a steal. Especially since it’s counted as a turnover on the offensive player.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Any official word on his injury?
I heard it was basically just muscle spasms any soreness but didn't know for sure

“We don’t look at it as significant, meaning a disc or anything like that. He fell, his back went into spasms, which happens a lot of times on a big guy like that. But I think he was starting to feel even a little bit better late in the game, so we’re hopeful that we can get him back for next game, but we’re not there yet.”

Just met Chase here in Vegas (where he went to HS)...not too many 7 footers who look like him so it went like this -
"Hey, you're Chase Jeter, right?"
"I am."
"Bear Down my man, you chose the right school!"
"Yeah, the second time."

He's got a chance to become the best "Chase" in program history next year.

Re: Chase Jeter
Moving discussion from the Sean Miller thread, here's why I think he's solid.
Both his OBPM and DBPM are among the most positive on the team. His PER is around 20. His turnover % has fallen very far since his Duke days.
Offensively and on the glass, he produces like Dusan with a lower usage. Defensively, he grades out better.
Koloko grades out well in those areas, but the sample size is so tiny.

I take full responsibility. I defended him on the Sean Miller Thready yesterday so its logical he would get back to back possessions of borderline airball hook shots and what felt like 30 back to back possessions of wide open Dante dunks.Chicat wrote:Hell of a game for our senior leader...

He didn’t even pick up 1 lousy foul. Just being an active participant as a Center or Forward in a D1 game for ten+ minutes should get you a foul even if it’s just by accident.
He took that one charge in the first couple of minutes then took the rest of the night off.

The only defensive move he has is taking a charge... not really a sign of a good defender... just someone that doesn't want to move

Hate to say it, but he's just not that good, guys. Looks like a case where he was mis-evaluated as a high school senior. His ceiling is much lower than most thought.

A lot of those ratings are physical potential. Jeter has that, but the remainder of his game has not evolved to meet it.Beachcat97 wrote:Hate to say it, but he's just not that good, guys. I don't think he's responded well to Nnaji eclipsing him. The touches Jeter got last year, Zeke gets those now. Jeter needs to find other ways to contribute and he isn't right now.

Re: Chase Jeter
Jeter has zero high post game. And if he can't catch the ball in the low post and beat his man, he shouldn't try. Having Nnaji on the floor should actually make things easier for him because Nnaji gets all the double teams. It's not Miller who needs to get on his back. It's his teammates who need to put some peer pressure on his ass.Spaceman Spiff wrote:A lot of those ratings are physical potential. He’ll probably end up as a hair stylist or a Middle East expert.
Re: Chase Jeter
Jeter needs some guacamole and a trip to Nogales. Slump buster.
Re: Chase Jeter
Hasn't been the same since Tinkle took him out last year.
Re: Chase Jeter
Not sure if it's mental or physical with him. He kind of lacks hustle and doesn't seem too intense when playing. But those things could also be due to injuries. Back injuries are no joke at all. I had one two years ago and I've never recovered. You just can't physically be the same sometimes.
