If we can hang with MSU I will be really happy with how we handled that early season test.

I feel like this will be a bigger change up than we had last year.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I don't think Jon Rothstein's prediction of our starting 5 is right.

Zu still might return.

I imagine Larsson will always come off the bench although they really need a scorer. Hate to be down 16-6 at the first TV timeout every game.

No he's right, Bradley, and Johnson came to start

Larsson is Lloyd's guy and he's returning to start, besides we have no one else on the wing who's experienced and we have no super instant impact incoming wings

Ball and Boswell are obviously penciled in

That does look like the starting 5. Zu is not coming back so who else would start over those guys?

So here's likely our final roster, probably only missing a backup point/combo guard

1. Boswell
2. Bradley
3. Larsson
4. Johnson
5. Ballo

6. Veesaar
7. Murauska
8. Lewis
9. Kriva

10. Borovicanin
11. Anderson

12. Likely backup guard
13. Likely open or not filled

I'm hoping for Zyon Pullin, grad transfer from UC Riverside. Scorer, shooter, and third guard all in one.

Paulius Murauskas is about as deadeye as it gets supposedly. Boswell can really shoot it as well. Still could use more though.

Well. It seems like we have our team. What do you guys think? Is this team going to contend for the PAC title? Is it a team that can make a run?

Thanks Choo.

More likely a guard or a wing? Or just best available from either positions?

That’s assuming no more bigs. Lol.

Think we are contending for the reg season champ with USC, UCLA #3 unless they get none of their draft testers back, then they are down further.

God only knows what Oregon will come up with, except a crummy non-con to spoil a high seed for a PAC contender, and then a low seed in the tourney, if they make it.

This roster gets us in the top 15 of many of the preseason polls.

Absolutely, and like Choo said, roster isn't even finished yet.

If you look around the league, the only team whose roster currently rivals ours is USC. Colorado should be strong too.

Arizona can absolutely contend for a Pac title and more next year, given the way recruiting has gone this summer.

I still want revenge over the Illini in 2008, Duke in 2001, and the USSR in 1972.

I think this is Lute type scheduling. I also think it shows what we might do when USC and UCLA leave the conference to keep our SOS. CTL is not afraid of losing a few to test his team and does not view a loss like most coaches might and how every fan on this site reacts.

Think those are all winnable games, too. Tommy's done very well in OOC games.

Do people still miss Sean Miller scheduling the Sisters of Mercy type programs?

Look at Nico Mannion as a perfect example who was playing himself into the lottery playing South Dakota State and Penn, then when conference play started dropped like a rock.

Well Duke is probably number 1 preseason. I don't think all these games will be winnable but provide a good measuring stick of what we need to work on. For example rebounding against Michigan State, 3 point defense against Duke as well as guarding a mobile big man. Lots of tests which will hopefully help us in conference.

I don’t think anyone liked it. I think Sean thought it was necessary due to the high player turnover and his pack line was hard to learn.
I also think Nico got hurt either against Baylor or the game before and he was never the same. But he should have stayed 2 more years. Didn’t help that the Chinese sabotaged the tournament. Italy has good food though.

I got your point, ECC.

In the past, we've had teams who were not ranked as high as OOC competition we faced early in the year, and then we effing won a lot of those games. Could see the same happening in 2023-24. I'm excited for next season.

We also went to many elite eights with the scheduling which was not as challenging as next year. I think good compensation is a good thing.

One could do that...

or,

One could BTFD!!!!

The concept of "losing...turning into a run in the tourney", is pure, unadulterated baloney!!!!

Obviously, we would want "both" but I would surely take a couple of learning moments if it means CTL's team will be tougher come tournament time.

So I won't be losing my shit if we get a couple of early L's, but it better produce some results come March.
