Does anyone have the sense that if Tommy doesn't show some magic we are all going to fall into a blackhole of despair?

That's an asset when your father is Gilbert Arenas. The man knows basketball inside and out.

His record over the past 2 years hasn’t been magical? I totally get his Tourney performances (March Madness that is, because he has kicked ass in regular season and PAC tourneys) needs to improve but I’m not having that feeling.

I need to see a few more years of who he brings in, I will give you that.

Oh, his win record has been stellar. No one in their right mind can argue otherwise. I'm talking about recruiting uncertainty and our sense of suffering as Wildcat fans. Change, clearly underway, is both opportunity and risk. We're nervous don't ya think? We'll overreact, over celebrate, over compensate, over-everything. It's actually more about us than the thing, is what I mean.

Tommy has done great things and brought in some ballers, but we need more. That's just the truth.

Indeed!!

“… our sense of suffering as Wildcat fans.” - For a team that’s been 61-11, an excellent example of over-entitled fandom!

Yep. I'm glad Tommy is offering the in-state kids early. I hope he offers Gil's son who is 6'6'' and growing.

ON IF GROWING UP IN PHOENIX MADE HIM A SUN DEVIL FAN:

“Actually, no. I actually grew up an [Arizona] fan.”

ON ARIZONA:

“I actually took an unofficial visit there and the experience was great. For the most part, it’s early, so they just say the stuff you expect. They just talked about the ins and outs of my game.”

Very impressive for Arenas, but sure looks like CIF Div IV has all the short players and don't play any defense.

Not knocking Arenas, but he looks like a man among boys out there.

Wasn’t that the knock on Gil because he played at Cerritos instead of Mater Dei or one of the other SoCal powers?

"Feels like home" is a great indicator for Arizona.

But he already lives in the LA area for family and friends to see him, UCLA is a better school academically, and going to a better conference with better money, along with the great LA weather makes it a tough choice

Don't think neither program have good NIL programs compared to other schools.

Disagree:

"Better school academically" True, but I doubt a kid of Arenas caliber places much emphasis on academics....he wants to get to the NBA

"Better Conference" - Wrong, Wrong, and wrong. The Big12>>>>>>B1G in basketball

Gil has not spent a lot of time around the UofA program post playing days.

I don't know if we should feel so confident.

I was referring to the conference as a whole. B12 paying out $31.6M per school, and the Big 10 will be paying out at least $65M.

Like Arenas mentioned, UCLA has the best of everything already.

Well, not the best basketball program at the moment.

And which coach would he rather play for? That can’t be overlooked.

This is what I'm saying.

As long as ucla has an a-hole for a coach, I don't expect to lose too many players to them, especially the son of a celebrated former Wildcat.

You gotta think Tucson businesses would shell out some pretty decent NIL deals for Arenas' son. There's also the big fish in a small pond appeal compared to LA.

Arizona still has to decide if it wants him over other targets for that class.

Holmes vs Arenas? I’m happy with either one, but would probably prefer Holmes due to competing with better talent.

Thanks for this point of clarification, Choo. I’d been thinking Alijah is the best player at his position we're recruiting.
