Jody Oehler who was also on 1490 went to Phoenix about a year ago. Not sure who has been doing it since then.

No, I don't think so - misread the OP.

Was it still the guy who came up with "Steeeeve Kerrrrrrrrrr!" ?

No. Roger Sedylmayer (sp?) was the Kerrrrr guy. He retired in the late 90s or early 2000s and passed away a number of years ago.

I believe families write the obituaries but the linear timing on this was pretty awkward.

On November 29, 1952, he married Barbara Aufmann. They moved to Tucson in 1963. They had one son, Roger. On September 17, 2000, Roger married Barbara Lesch. Roger joined the United States Air Force Reserves and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He was assigned to the 437th Troop Carrier Wing, southern Japan Island of Kyushu from 1950-1952. He was Honorably Discharged. He served as a police officer with the Chicago Police Department from 1957-1963.

But he certainly lived a full life and did not sit on his ass.

Might need to get on this. Tested against Jonathan Norris, who won the job in 1995 upon Sedlmayr's retirement and had been doing it ever since.

After a dunk: "Stanley Johnson -- ABOVE THE RIM!"

:) Works for me!

As long as whoever wins the job doesn't come off sounding like one of those "And one" club ball tourney guys. Can't stand any of 'em.

Families do indeed write the obits and sometimes they don't make a lot of sense without reading them a few times. (Sometimes the funeral home will write the obit after getting info from the family. These guys have been doing it for a while, so they pretty well have it figured out and their copy tends to be clean.) I used to proofread the obit copy and sometimes you'd read something and wonder why on earth someone thought that was even relevant. This one, while out of order, isn't the worst I've read. Not by a long shot.

Like I posted, his name was Jonathan Norris and he started out as the girls basketball announcer before getting hired for both in '95.

I feel like you should work the phrase "he touched the ball!" into out of bounds calls.

Yeah, "Another slow start" isn't what they want to hear. :D

"The Refs tonight were personally selected by Larry Scott" probably wouldn't go over well either.

Thinking about getting absolutely shitbombed and recording all these lines just to see what comes out.

It turns out that the current basketball PA announcer (Jonathan Norris) didn't leave, and he is free to audition for the job.
They are just thinking about something new to go with the changes at McKale.

Here is some background on the football PA guys the last two years from Hansen at ADS:

Dear Mr. Football: What was that unfamiliar noise at the UA-UNLV opener?

A: It was public address announcer Jimmy Zasa, who is not, shall we say, your conventional, Voice of God, college football stadium PA guy.

Zasa is an acquired taste, a Canyon del Oro High School grad who has been the PA guy at Arizona baseball games where he developed a shtick that you either (a) like, (b) hate or (c) wonder if he has a sore throat.

Unlike UA basketball games at McKale Center, where replacing the PA announcer is above-the-fold news, there was barely a mention of Zasa replacing Jonas Hunter, who was the football PA guy in 2013. However long it lasts, Zasa is just the seventh football PA man since Bumps Tribolet retired in the 1970s.
