Word is Donte Williams was hired as the corners' coach, not DB coach. So, there's that.

If you can get a kid to go to SJSU he is a good rectuiter. If you get a kid to choose SJSU with an SC offer, you are a recruiting witch.Newportcat wrote:I asked my SoCal contact who knows high school football in SoCal better then even Chief and he said he LOVED the hire. Said he was one of the top up and coming coaches on the west coast and a well known recruiter. Said it was the exact type of hire a guy like rich Rod needs to make to continue to grow the Cali pipeline . He said he got the lower ranked guys from all the big Cali high schools to commit to SJSU and now at Arizona will have a lot more to sell.chiefzona wrote:This is a HUGE hire. He is a phenomenal recruiter. He pulled Kanya Bell out of Long Beach Poly away from USC and to San Jose State. That ish doesn't happen. Charismatic and a very good coach. Kudos RR. You've done your homework and realize the importance of Recruiting Cali.
I always temper expectations when it comes to Arizona football but I am actually pretty optimistic at what Rich Rod is doing
Let's see who we hire at DC
The trajectory looks promising that's for sure

Definitely a possibility. No ship has sailed yet.

Exactly the kind of guy RichRod needed to target. The combo of Williams and Marcel Yates (still waiting) would quadruple Arizona's recruiting power in SoCal...
Williams is an "ace."

I say it's Rich Rod's best hire since he's been at Arizona. Both him and Yates can be a very powerful force in SoCal. Both are highly regarded and have great track records there as well as good relationships with coaches there. Williams is a huge land. Yates would be a huge land. I'm excited. Arizona football just got real on the defensive side of the ball.

Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
He has been alright. Pulled in some decent recruits but there was a drop off last season. I'd say Harding and Bloomgren are better. This will be a big year for him. I still easily stand by my opinion that Donte Williams is RR's best hire since he's been at Arizona.MrBug708 wrote:Jim Michalczik. Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
We need to fill that position. If Yates is not down then move on. I would love to have him but come on now!
Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
So Yates is playing hard to get or does he truly Bleedblue?
Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
I wonder how does it translate to a Secondary Coach of being name one of the top ten recruiter in sport illustrated and of the Mountain West. Plus I don't see how he a good recruiters if some of his recruit at SJSU are under rated.

Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
It is so refreshing to see that RichRod is really ready to change the direction of the defensive staff.
There was just no way that he was going to be truly successful at a school like Arizona with a third of the staff not being dedicated recruiters. I understand that recruiting can suck at times and air travel is a complete pain in the ass, but its an necessary pain in the ass in the college sporting ranks.
If your chosen profession is as a college coach and you dislike recruiting then you picked the wrong profession.
RR bringing in young and talented new coaches that have a pronounced recruiting prowess is the life blood of the program. Having well connected coaches and recruiters to SoCal is a must for us to be winners.
As has been mentioned many times here by other folks, we don't need to remake the Desert Swarm to be successful, we just need to improve to the 50-70 range to make this one hell of a program.
One thing I know for sure..........there won't be any limited recruiting clauses or waivers built in to any of the new hires contracts. Why anyone including RR ever thought that was possible and prudent is beyond me.
But anyway we move on to a new era of UofA football. The new defensive staff with young, vibrant and talented and connected coaches has this old Cat reinvigorated.

Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
Newport, thanks for posting that.
I know Donte is saying all the right stuff as you would expect but that dude is impressive.
I can't help but think we just took a gigantic step forward in our future success. This is the type of coach we need.
I giving RR huge credit here. If our DC and DL coach turn out to be like this guy we should be considerable better.
I'm really excited to see who the rest of the new coaches are.

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

And somehow RR has made a believer out of all of us again. I can't wait for years two and three to see what Arizona looks like, Arizona just need a top 30 defense and it could be big time in the pac!

Re: Who will be Arizona's new DC?
Absolute Home run hire at DC for so many reasons including
Great recruiter with strong ties to SoCal AND Texas an area we used to recruit and hopefully pick up again
Proven success
Young
Left alma mater which must have been tough which tells me he will be here at least a couple years to prove himself
Rich Rod is a great recruiter to get these guys
If we bring back big Joe at DL...wow though I think Yates will want at least one of his own guys to come with him. I bet him and Donte talked as sure they know each other

New start for all those defensive guys. Any player that thought he should be seeing the field more now has an equal playing field to impress the new coaches.
If they bring big Joe back I think I just might pass out from excitement. Hoping we become super aggressive and very physical on defense
