Losing a lot of OL the next two years. Happy to see recruiting success here.

Re: 2015 recruits/commitment thread
I think with RRod at the helm the natural progression of recruiting is QBs, then skill position players (offense & defense), then OL, with DL last. So, I take it as a sign of progress he's able to grab two classes of solid OL recruits and transfers.

Great commit. Regarded as a 4* by some, solid 3* by others. Great offer list too (Oregon and most of the Pac12)

UA football: Canadian offensive lineman commits to Cats
http://tucson.com/sports/blogs/uafootba ... f887a.html
The Arizona Wildcats crossed the border — the other one — for their latest commitment.
Harper Sherman, a 6-4, 265-pound offensive lineman from New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, pledged to the UA this afternoon while on campus for an unofficial visit.
Sherman chose Arizona over offers from Cal, Oregon State, Washington State and others.

On the day before fall practice begins for the Arizona Wildcats, a new face has joined the 2015 recruiting class. Harper Sherman, who was on campus on Friday, committed.
Sherman is a 6'4", 265 pound offensive tackle from New Westminster, British Columbia. Although he is unrated by Rivals, Sherman also had offers from Cal, Oregon State, Washington State, and San Diego State among others.
The offensive lineman was on campus this week along with several other recruits for the opening of fall camp. Here's more of the list of Tucson visitors this week according to Scout's Jason Scheer:

I like Sherman and Creason. Both should move inside at the next level and both are solid recruits. I think Creason will end up a 4*

Just throwing this out... saw this last night.
Know some 2015 commits tweeted pics of receiving their Offer certificates. Last night a Bakersfield HS coach tweeted: I don't know if non-verbals received in mail or other. I don't think Scout or Rivals even lists this DL (EDIT: actually scout has profile but no info). Maxpreps does. Just seemed odd, but I'm not sure how process works

Re: 2015 recruits/commitment thread
Torrance Gibson's recruitment pretty "dynamic". From his blog, twitter, interviews he's got quite the personality (opinion). 1st thing, Tenn. not on list. He praised them for months. KM and him teamed up on publicly. Many accounts Tenn dropped him. Wanted him at WR. As many of his top choices over the months reportedly (multiple) have. Want him at WR not QB. Gibson now saying publicly tOSU his top school now in the lead. Also said in past on multiple occasions does not want to play in FL. But Miami on final 4.
Plenty of accounts that Gibson struggled at QB during workouts at recent TheOpening. His Opening invite was for ATH not QB. Did not play in Elite 11 QB battle but did do reps with WR's.
He also ran a 4.47 40 and was AT TheOpening and seems to be a terrific athlete. I'm just guessing Arizona a default QB offer for him. He is adamant that he wants to play QB and not WR. Which think that leaves Arizona in good spot to land him if Urban Meyer hesitates on Gibson or does not really want him at QB.

Unfortunately chances are bit higher than that. I am close with some of those on the "inner circle" of his recruitment, and he is giving ASU a pretty serious look. From what I have been told, its ASU, A&M, and tOSU leading right now, and they are all about neck and neck. Now that said, I tend to believe ASU would need to have a really good year to hold any real shot at him. Also, USC has made a pretty strong push for him of late, and I would say of those 6, UCLA is the least likely.

My guess is one of the other 3 schools on his list will convince him they really like him at QB and "will give him a shot", and then move him to WR ASAP a la Devin Fuller. Would love him here though.RazorsEdgeAZ wrote:

Re: 2015 recruits/commitment thread
Good story on the walk-on rules by Pete Roussel at WSR. Coach Rod would love to give Jake Matthews a scholarship now, but doesn't want to take a hit to next year's recruiting class.
The fact is coaches are allowed to award a scholarship to a walk-on player provided that the program is under the 85 total scholarship limit and has space leftover from the 25 initial scholarships in the last recruiting class OR is willing for the scholarship to count against the upcoming class of 25 initial scholarships.
Therefore, if a program used all 25 of its initial scholarships in the last recruiting class, the walk-on who is awarded a scholarship reduces the number of initial scholarships for the upcoming recruiting class by one. Most college programs would go from 25 initial scholarships in the class to 24.
Thus, coaches must weigh two options:
Do you reward a walk-on with a scholarship because he has earned it?
OR
Do you make the player continue to pay his own way so that your program can have its full allotment of initial scholarships for the upcoming signing class?
Re: 2015 recruits/commitment thread
He's really warming up to the idea of going to Arizona, but I think Urban Meyer will get him. Urban will do whatever it takes to get an athlete like him to Ohio State and he'll most likely lie about him playing QB.Reydituto wrote:My guess is one of the other 3 schools on his list will convince him they really like him at QB and "will give him a shot", and then move him to WR ASAP a la Devin Fuller. Khaylan Thomas listed his official visits to Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State, and Oklahoma. Has said he will pick the school with depth chart in mind. Where he feels he has best shot to compete for playing time right away. OKla is a new offer for him and he seemed really excited to get that one. He dropped Miami on visits to throw in Okla. Also said he won't decide until close to signing day.
Torrance Gibson announcing Oct. 20th. Some tOSU recruits have said Gibson is a silent commit to them FWIW. Gibson hasn't been shy about promoting tOSU either with his talk or wearing their gear.
Re: 2015 recruits/commitment thread
Gimino with a fast read on Darick Holmes.
One of the most intriguing players in the Arizona Wildcats' 2015 football recruiting class is all-purpose back Darick Holmes Jr., who is off to a fast start at Newbury Park (Calif.) High School.
His offensive coordinator there just happens to be former UA quarterback Keith Smith, and the team's offensive line coach is ex-Arizona lineman Joe Smigiel.
"He's lightning in a bottle. I don't know how else to describe him," Smith said. "He's a complete football player, offensively and defensively. I have never seen a kid that size who absolutely dominates a football game. Never seen it. You can't tackle him. One guy never brings him down."
"In my opinion, he's a perfect slot receiver for what RichRod is doing at Arizona," Smith said. "You talk about being able to get guys in space ... he's tailor-made for RichRod's offense."
His brother, Darnay, only a sophomore, is an even bigger prospect. He's a receiver/cornerback and is a couple of inches taller than Darick. Arizona - and about 20 other schools - already have offered a scholarship to Darnay, rated the 28th-best sophomore in the country by 247Sports.

Good story and recognition for Dudek and the Digital Gurus.
"Early in the week we say, 'When we win this game, I want to put something out," Dudek said. "They were loaded on my phone ready to go as soon as the clock hit double zeroes. It would have been quickly deleted if we didn't win, but every now and then we want to take advantage of the national stage."
Additionally, a win like that means more attention from recruits as well. Dudek said that several recruits they have on their board but weren't sure if the interest was mutual reached out with congratulatory messages on Friday, and the number of recruits looking to attend this weekend's game increased dramatically. Usually hovering somewhere between 60 and 80 recruits per game, Arizona is scheduled to host more than 125 prospects for its USC game.
"It certainly opened up the communication lines with certain guys, which is nice," Dudek said of the big win. "All of the sudden, they want to come to Tucson and check out a game, and getting them here on campus is always big for us."

In my wildest dreams I wouldn't have thought there would be more than 10 recruits at any given time at a game. 125 for USC......wow.
With that number its going to be hard to give any real individual attention. But for sure Dudek and the boys have been doing this for a while, so they know what their doing.
But still, a 125 recruits at one game.

I think that is a typo or an exaggeration. Even the best football programs in the country don't have more than 20 or so prospects on the busiest recruiting days. An average of 6-8, with maybe 12 for this game makes much more sense, and still a lot of recruits for one game.Gladiator Cat wrote:In my wildest dreams I wouldn't have thought there would be more than 10 recruits at any given time at a game. 125 for USC......wow.

Last year one of my son's teammates from Cienega got to go to the UCLA game because he was being scouted as a preferred walk-on. They gave him
two extra tickets as well so he took my son and another teammate.
I'm guessing It could be a lot of preferred walk-ons, regular walk-on candidates, and offered recruits.
Re: 2015 recruits/commitment thread
Exactly this. A friend on the team and had a friend who just played HS football, was getting recruited much lower, and he could not give him his tickets he had to go through the program. Im willing to bet on an average pac-12 week 10-15 are being recruited with a scholly while 50 ish are recruited as a walk on.UAEebs86 wrote:I think it's possible if they are using the word "recruits" loosely.Scummy Dick Douglas wrote:I think that is a typo or an exaggeration.
