what're the odds rich starts Dawkins?
Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
We will likely come out with a 4-2-5 defense and play bend not break. I don't buy streaks as a prediction for the future either. I don't think Arizona stops our offense but I'm not sure we adjust to your guys offense either. Caleb Wilson being out is a loss of a big weapon
Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
UCLA cannot stop the run. They are letting everyone run wild on them. They're giving up 281 a game on the ground. 'Furd ran for 405 on them. They also can't run the ball. They're only running for 115 per game. Rosen is a dangerous QB throwing the ball, as we all know. But all it takes is a couple of picks and UCLA is in big trouble. He's putting the entire team on his back - dude is throwing for 427 a game - but it's pretty much him and his receivers and that's UCLA for you. They're giving up 222 through the air, which is almost respectable until you remember that teams aren't having to throw. This game comes down to who performs better - Arizona's secondary or UCLA's front 7.
One interesting thing that Michael Lev pointed out last night on Twitter late in the game was that Arizona was scoring so quickly that the defense had no time to rest, and that they were gassed out there. That actually makes sense when you look at the time of possession, and also remember that they were playing at 5300 feet elevation. The Cats had the ball for less than ten minutes in the first half. Arizona had scoring drives of 11 seconds, 2:25, 56 seconds, 1:16, 15 seconds, 2:56. Four of those drives are as short or shorter than 3 and outs. This week Arizona is playing at home and I don't think we're going to see a spate of scoring drives under a minute. What this *hopefully* means is that the defense is going to be able to get those third down stops that they couldn't get last night.
One other thing that jumps out is turnovers. UCLA is -6 on the year. Arizona is even on turnover margin.

Vegas Insider opened as a pick'em but moved to Arizona -2.5 right away.
Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
Home field and a friday night game which probably explains the spread for Arizona. Would like to see UCLA roll out with these again

Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
I know it's a rare day when I'm wrong, and you are trying to atone for your brother, but UCLA has two friday games. For some reason, which I owned up to, I thought UCLA played Arizona friday, but it'll probably be the Dodgers, so either way, I'll have something to watch. I corrected my mistake and pointed out that it was Cal and Utah who UCLA plays on a Friday.scumdevils86 wrote:you could just say you were wrong twice. but okay.

Even if it's a great game, bet half the stands are empty at half time. That's just the way the fans at Arizona Stadium roll. Didn't see too many empty seats second half at Boulder.

Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
Family weekend is usually a good draw by itself. Throw in what Tate just did and you have a number of fans that will buy tickets just to see what Tate will do. Hansen mentioned an additional 10K fans will be tempted to buy tickets which I would agree with as that's roughly the number of our fringe fans who need a reason to buy a ticket.Merkin wrote:UofAlum05 wrote:Hopefully the fans show up, fill the place up, stay loud, and stay for the whole game.

The reason for the spread is Ucla ranks 11th in the conference in scoring defense. 12th in Total defense. 12th in rushing defense.MrBug708 wrote:Home field and a friday night game which probably explains the spread for Arizona. Would like to see UCLA roll out with these again

Arizona is favored because it's a home game, otherwise UCLA would be favored. Home field is generally around 3 points. I don't care one way or another what the spread is. The last time Arizona was favored was in 2012, a game I was at. I ended up hanging out with Gershon, 97cats, and one other guy from the the goazcats board beforehand. We wore those LA Nights jersey's.dc4azcats wrote:The reason for the spread is Ucla ranks 11th in the conference in scoring defense. 12th in Total defense. 12th in rushing defense.MrBug708 wrote:Home field and a friday night game which probably explains the spread for Arizona. There are a shit-ton of tickets left so there will have to be a pretty brisk walk-up business to make a dent in that. UCLA and USC are usually huge draws. If we can't fill the seats when we are favored, at-home, against the hated Bruins, with one biggest rising stars in CFB, it means Arizona is "toast" as a college football destination for any AD, Coach, or recruit worth their weight. With the gradual decline of football attendance and viewership, we might as well hang our cleats up. On that note...Beardown.

I wouldn't write off our fan base that quickly Loco. Lots of disdain for RR but another conference win would do wonders. Having hope in a guy like Tate is big and you know AZ fans are a show me crowd. we get this win and say a couple more prior to homecoming nd you might see 50K back in the seats against Wazzu. RR needs to WIN them back

The real question for the board is this...
Do I hang the house flag this weekend? I didn't put it up this past sat and we won our first conference game and first roadie since 2015.
Normally I just hang it all game days but forgot this past weekend due to some stuff going on.

I am hypercritical of our fans...I think the fans need to show they deserve a great team versus thinking the team needs to show they deserve bandwagon/fair weather fans. The Bamas and the UM's of the world fill the stadium, regardless, so they will always get the pick of the litter when is comes to AD's, Coaches, and Players. Did you see the UM game with a torrential down pour and the crowd was NUTS!!! I am sooo effing jealous of that.azcat49 wrote:I wouldn't write off our fan base that quickly Loco. F that. It's me buying the tickets and merchandise etc that pays the coaches and ad salary. They need to put a product on the field that I can watch and want to spend 4 or 5 hours of my short weekends.

Fly that fucker! Side note, flew out to Edmond OK for a big family gathering this weekend and my cousin scored us tickets to the OU/ISU game. 82K strong and it was miserably hot too! The student section after halftime was eerily similar to ours, they all vanished....killer campus and stadium thou. Co-eds in cowboy boots and tight shorts was a nice added bonus!UALoco wrote:Let your freak flag fly.PHXCATS wrote:You never mess with a streakCalStateTempe wrote:The real question for the board is this...

Hey Sid, can you imagine if RR actually got JJ out on the perimeter in space with Tate as a threat as well. Oh my, would that be fun

Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
You can get a UCLA ticket for $20...a t-shirt for $20..$40 bucks barely pays for a pair of RR's slacks. The real money comes from season tickets, tv revenue, donations/boosters and now the student fee. Predicable revenue trump other kinds because they can be borrowed against to buy the big stuff(facilities, contracts, etc.). Different strokes for different folks. We can disagree. I will be in the stadium rooting for Cat's to destroy the Bruins and get Mora fired. How's that for some pay back!scumdevils86 wrote:F that. Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
Attendance and commitment by Arizona fans is nothing new. First off, a good portion of Tucson residents are transplants. They'll support the team if you put a good product on the field, against good opponents and don't ask them to stay 'til midnight and invest 4 hours in entertainment. Call them bad fans or whatever, people just don't enjoy sitting at a stadium into the wee hours when Arizona is facing the likes of Northern Arizona, UTSA, Nevada, etc... I think Arizona fans are actually more educated and don't blindly throw their money away when they see the team isn't that good and the non-conference opponents suck. So, if that makes Arizona football fans bad. Guilty.UALoco wrote:I am hypercritical of our fans...I think the fans need to show they deserve a great team versus thinking the team needs to show they deserve bandwagon/fair weather fans. Hey guys, if you want to bitch at each other about, &/or actually discuss the reasons you theorize are behind, the attendance issues at the University of Arizona Football games, then please, by all means, take it to the appropriate place. Namely, this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1274" target="_blank
Otherwise, let's try to, I don't know, actually discuss the upcoming game here in this thread devoted to discussing the upcoming game.

Re: UCLA @ Arizona discussion thread
me thinks that the focus will be on Tate and the running backs have a big game. If Tate doesn't turn the ball over and we can get one or two rosen pics it should be a dub. Rosen's gonna get his 300 it's just about getting some sacks and turnovers.
