Going from memory here, but didn't practice injuries go up considerably when the Cats practice at Wildcat Stadium after they took the grass out?
Specifically thinking ACL.

This is a huge nothing burger. Most schools have field turf nowMerkin wrote:Going from memory here, but didn't practice injuries go up considerably when the Cats practice at Wildcat Stadium after they took the grass out?

Not that I can remember. We practiced 90% at the baseball field with grass anyway. The big one I can still picture in my head was Austin Hill's and that was in left field at the baseball stadium.PHXCATS wrote:This is a huge nothing burger. You may be forgetting the Great ACL Harvest of 2011 when six guys blew out ACLs during practice before the season. Turf came into the stadium in 2013.Merkin wrote:Going from memory here, but didn't practice injuries go up considerably when the Cats practice at Wildcat Stadium after they took the grass out?

Re: Will we bring back the grass?
Field turf is much cheaper and the new stuff doesn't have the injury issues that people remember from the older days. We should never go back. I don't see the point of pouring money into grass that we could use on good coaches or other facility upgrades.
Re: Will we bring back the grass?
I was at the Arizona Bowl last week and I was looking at the turf, and I was impressed at how good it looked. It's been used for five seasons now. Desert climate and the intensity of the sun here is very harsh on materials, but this stuff still looks pretty much new. I know there's some maintenance involved, and these guys have done very well keeping it up.
Also, if you haven't been down on that turf, it is niiiiiiiiice stuff. Nothing like the turf of old. At all.
