Hopefully the designers realize the need for inside roofing material that can withstand practice punt strikes.

While I like the area in front of the facility (obviously primarily for gameday festivities), is it really needed? I mean if that area is the difference between an 80 yard facility and a 100 yard facility give me the full 100 yards.

Looks great though.

I don't see how the facility would not be 120 yards plus. The drawings are

Are they? I just recall hearing that when this was initially released it would only house an 80-90 yard field (forget the amount, just know it's less than 100).

The current field now is 110. But they would be taking out stands and such. Still need places for storage of practice equipment that currently takes up the batting cages and I'd imagine other things

I'm concerned about the if the mockup is based on Sumlin's practices. I don't see how having clumps of guys running in random directions is going to lead to player development.

I am a little intrigued by the anti-gravity project in the bottom right, though.

I once heard a proposal for this general area where UofA would close the street between McKale center and the baseball field where it would be a mini mall where a player could "Roll out of bed" and get various choices of food and eats (Starbucks), get academic tutoring, and then go to his/her athletic venue in one contained area. They suggested dorms in the area and eateries where the school could have a revenue center 24/7 365 days a year similar to the Houston Texan's stadium.
I heard this proposal over ten years ago when Chis Heavner #14 was the QB at the time. I think he was left handed. Jim Livengood was the AD at the time.
Possibly they dusted off and spruced up an old proposal?
I'm not complaining. The facility renderings look great.
But consider If you close the street, as originally suggested/proposed, you have room for a 120 yard+ field and athletic dorm in the area.

Oh don't forget to "Make the Logo Bigger".

Google Maps shows that there should be plenty of room for a full sized field and the structure. Currently in place is a 110 foot field. Once the rest of the baseball stadium goes down all will fit fine.

So right after spring ball probably. Guess for fall ball they will only use the stadium for practice so at least for those year it will remain artificial grass

Are we gonna rip out the artificial turf eventually?

What a stupid move for so little gain all for someone’s “rep” based on what was successful 10 years ago.

Planning Start Date: September 2017
Design: December 2017
Construction: April 2018
Occupancy: November 2018

That means it'll either debut November 2nd for Colorado or November 24th for ASU. My guess is it'll be the ASU game.

I hope not. Turf is much lower cost and comparable performance to grass. You can't smoke turf, but everything else is turf all the way.

My freshman in to sophomore year was the switch. The players love the turf, hated the grass. All that matters. Looks so much cleaner too.

Plus, with building an indoor, you'll have to practice on the field. If it's grass, you can't.

Yeah, turf has come a long way. It will keep it consistent with an IPF too so players practice on what they play on.

I'd much rather be sinking extra money into facilities upgrades than grass upkeep.

90 yard field with one end zone.

Also per the Star the facility isn't guaranteed to look like this, what's out now is just a rendering.

How does this proposed facility compare to other in the Pac-12? Hopefully not a case where we're so far behind in the arms race that our new facility is still bottom half in league...

IPF's are pretty standard from what I've seen. The big draw is all weather, any time practice.

Once you get past that, you want enough space for a full team practice and the roof designs tend to be consistent. Some schools integrate tracks, but that's a space issue. If you have space and a reliable roof design, (i.e., one that won't get destroyed in weather) you're good.

This will forever change the face of Arizona football. Been needed for years and now our coaches can overcome a big competitive disadvtange with us given weather from May through October is really hot and then monsoons

I can remember arguing with Arizona fans on another board for years on this on how important it is not just for football but all u of a sports. Those idiots disagreed with me. This will help soccer track etc as all sports will be able to have a place to workout in a controlled environment during the hot summer months.

Also will be a great place to tailgate before football and maybe even basketball games. Also can be used by u of a for conventions etc.

This coupled with Kevin Sumlin could change the course for u of a football. Great recruiting mixed with quality facilities has never happened at u of a before. Now we can see what our programs true potential is. Felt like before we were always playing from behind in both recruiting and facilities. We might not have Oregon facilities but ours will be on par with everyone else. And on par is a massive improvement compared to what we had 6 years ago when our old crappy locker room was in McKale, we shared a weight room, stadium was all old, and we had to practice at Salpointe to practice on turf. Those days are all behind us now.

Very fired up

New facilities including a practice facility and a coach who is a proven recruiter. I guess we will find out if it's possible for the right guy to get consistent top 25 classes to the UofA in football. Excited to see what happens

This is unfortunately the line of thinking for both Larry Smith and Dick Tomey lovers. It is rooted in a past that some Arizona fans cling too. A past that never lead to a Rose Bowl. The idea you do not need facilities was something you could get away with in recruiting in 1993. But not in today's age.

In today's time with today's athletes, you need the bells & whistles. Very important. And good news is both Byrne and Heeke understood this.

I have seen former players and fans against the Indoor practice facility for years, even today which is lunacy to me. Why would you ever not make the product you are selling better. That is just bad business.

I have said for years one of the biggest selling features against Arizona to west coast recruits is how hot it is during the majority of Footballs peak training periods (May through October). The Indoor does a massive job of solving that objection. Simple Sales math. To close high quality sales, learn how to overcome the biggest objections.

Fuck I am excited about these new facilities and this new staff. And I hope the fans who said we didn't need an indoor facility or it was not important realize the errors of that thinking now
