Why is Tate being ignored this offseason?

Every time this thread is bumped I anticipate something about a torn ACL or arrest at a bar or car accident or something.

Tate’s quotes highlight a lack of visionary leadership from Arizona AD Dave Heeke. If he was convinced Niumatalolo was the guy to lead Arizona moving forward, he should have gotten Tate and other Wildcat leaders in a room and explained his vision for the program with Niumatalolo as its head coach (and the fact Niumatalolo runs the triple option because it’s the best fit for Navy, not because he’s married to it.) And if the players were united against Niumatalolo, don’t you think it would have been better for Heeke and Arizona to learn that behind closed doors, instead of on Twitter?
http://footballscoop.com/news/arizona-q ... ona-tweet/" target="_blank

I agree with that completely and IMO that Bleacher Report article just makes Arizona look fricken inept. Khalil Tate has two more years max at Arizona and a tweet by him arguably sabotaged a coaching hire. Yeah that doesn't look good.

Sure does, and quite embarrassing that the patients are running the asylum.

Soon after, Tate began speaking to Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke on a regular basis about the coaching search. Tate says Heeke would meet with candidates and then get Tate's thoughts.

"I was basically the spokesman for our team," Tate said. "I would tell (Heeke), I like this, I don't like that."

Now where is everyone that was saying Heeke was a friggin genious? Sumlin was his man all along and he was an absolute genious the way he worked the fans and the media. I posted back then I thought Heeke was lucky. Now it turns out he's inept. So what really happened and does it really matter?

CST it isnt what it seems.

Despite what this article says and what others are saying on Twitter, Tate had nothing to do with the hire. Heeke told him he was listening to him and taking his feedback just to keep him happy and quiet on social media.

I don't know exactly just how much Tate or any of the players influenced what went down, but I do know and Scheer's tweet here backs it up completely, that Ken N. was offered the job and he was taking it. What happened from there only god knows, but I'll be very disappointed if it came down to a QB with two fricken years of eligibility left dictating what he wanted as the reason it all went down. If we went with Sumlin for ticket sales or recruiting or you just thought he was the superior coach then fair enough, I'll stand by that any day, but if we let the players dictate the hire? That's pure amateur hour.

Good for Heeke and Dr. Robbins for listening to Tate. Tate demonstrated leadership and he was smart beyond his years in how he did it (leadership is kinda important for the QB, doncha think?). He spoke for his team. Did he dictate the hire? Highly doubtful. Did he influence it? Probably. A tip of the hat to Tate, Heeke, and Dr. Robbins. Well played. Could Heeke have called a meeting with the players, and sold them on his choice (basically running it down their throats)? Of course, they're kids. Should he have? Nope! He played it straight and right. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Dr. Robbins is smarter than all of them - and us.

Man we yoyo on Heeke more than we ever have for any other Wildcat.

Heeke talks to Ken N, what an awful hire!
We got Sumlin what a great hire by Heeke!
Heeke hasn't said anything about Miller, he's failing us!
Heeke backs Miller, Heeke is the man!
Tate controlled Heeke's hiring, what a joke!
Oh most likely Heeke just wanted to get Tate to shut up, how brilliant!

End results are pretty damn good so far.

Also why in the hell are we buying into that article? It's basically a puff piece for Tate. Yes it has some quotes from Robbins but it's basically taking everything Tate says as absolute truth.

Whats the old mantra, any news is good news? Tate in the headlines and will be until the start of the season and then his performance will talk. I don't care if it is true or not (although I don't necessarily like a college kid dictating decisions) but I do get the importance of keeping a true Heisman candidate. We got Sumlin which is a great thing IMO. Shows how smart Sumlin is by passing on any comments,

Tate may have known exactly what he was doing, but Heeke gave exactly 0.000% thought into his tweets and what Tate believes he was speaking on and for when making the decisions he made in hiring Sumlin and how he went about getting Sumlin to U of A.

This reporting is about as sloppy as Schlabach's. It's literally just Tate saying he controlled the coach search and nothing to actually corroborate it. Not a single quote from Heeke, or even that he declined to comment.

Now it is completely possible that Scheer thinks he is absolutely right with his own backup on it, but that is actually wasnt at all what was really going on.

I don't think Tate's tweet was the tell all be all in this decision obviously, but certainly the quotes used in the story by Robbins makes it look like he had a great amount of influence one way or the other. I think it's obvious that Ken N. was offered the job and Robbins decided to go over Heeke's head and make a move on Sumlin.

Also I wouldn't buy a damn thing Chief is selling here. There's no point in a god damn smokescreen when you are literally the only job opening on the market at that time. No point at all.

Here's the worst take I've seen on this issue from David Hookstead at someplace called the Smoke Room (I think this article and site are just click bate, so don't go unless you have to).
Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate may be a Heisman candidate, but he’s apparently also incredibly selfish.

Bleacher Report recently published an extremely long and interesting profile on Tate. A small part caught my eye, and not for a good reason. Tate admitted sending a tweet in order to stop the school from hiring Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo. Why did he do it? Because he didn’t like the triple option offense.

I’m not kidding. He straight up admitted to sabotaging his school over a personal dislike for an offense a coach might run when he made the choice to hit send a tweet that read, “I didn’t come to Arizona to run the triple-option.”

So, Tate just openly admitted he cared more about what he thought was best for the school than what might actually be best. What an incredibly selfish thing for anybody to do.

The people in charge of hiring for the Wildcats are just as stupid for listening to the opinion of a player with only two years left at the school.
Crap take and crap journalism. Read someone else's interview, spin it as badly as possible to malign a 19 year old you have never met or talked to, and then toss it on the interweb and hope for clicks and revenue.

Tate thinking he influenced this and caused Ken N not to be hired is equal to you as a fan thinking you won a game for the team because you wore your lucky Jersey or sat on the right cushion of your couch

This whole thing is absolute nonsense and the worse of journalism. Correlation does not imply causation. This is also one of those telephone game type of news. They start citing “a report” that made an assumption and now it is being implied as a fact.

Me too. Ken N. would have been fine. Speaking of Tate, however, I applaud what he did. Doubtful it swayed Heeke's choice (I understand Dr. Robbins did that), however, Tate handled how he and the team felt in a very intelligent way. Leadership!
