Anybody else remember the mining horn going off after every score and at the end of the 1984 home upset of UCLA? First game on national TV in the probation era.

Not a fan,but generally hate loud artificial noises at games, just want fan noise and the announcer.

I was at that game (actually 1983), but really don't remember that, although I remember the game quite well. Slick Rick was the UCLA QB and his sister was a cheerleader for Arizona. Tunnecliffe was the UA QB. UCLA went down the field for a short FG to tie the game, but their kicker (Lee?) missed his only short FG of the season, at least until that game.

Too bad Tunnecliffe didn't get a sniff in the NFL, but if I remember the story right his dad told some teams not to draft him.

Merk is right - 1983. I was there too. It was like a 10:30 AM kickoff. Screwdrivers for breakfast!

The students rushed the field and took down the goal posts after Lee missed the FG.

At least I know I will only be spending about 5-10 hours this season watching this team instead of the original 30-40 I budgeted.

That was one of the worst play-called games I've ever seen when you factor in the talent on the field.

College or Pro.
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

Just got back to my Holiday Inn Express

1st game observations:

1) There were a lot of people drinking beer tonight
2) BYU beat us up on both lines of scrimmage
3) Our new "Beef" on the DL is just a lot of F A T. Johsnon/Irving need to be put on a high protein low carbohydrate diet tomorrow. Both
of these guys need to get down to 300lbs at a minimum
4) Our OL was really bad.............as I expected. We will get better when Friekh returns but we still have issues at the other line positions, especially
center and right guard. Our Frosh Walk on got thrown around like a bag of rice with a hole in it. Does anyone know if Congel still has a shot to
get eligible this year??
5) Everyone predicting 9-10 wins better put the crack pipe down right now. 6 or 7 wins is the ceiling for this team.
6) RRod >>>>> Mazzone as an OC
7) Did I mention that a lot of people were drinking tonight???

Bearing down on better days ahead.

Right now, that is insulting to Oregon State.

Rice looks like a better program. I cannot believe how unaccountable every Wildcat is playing right now.

Since his freshman redshirt was burned, any chance of deciding that Tate's ankle problem is season ending, get him a medical redshirt, let Mazzone try to turn Rhett Rod into Peyton Manning, then spend every remaining scholarship (rescind some offers if you need to) on the biggest juco linemen you can find and bring Tate back next year?

Tate could take a regular redshirt with the rule change this year.

If they did that, I'd expect Tate to enter the NFL draft.

He wont get drafted as a qb and he is just going to be wasted on this team with this staff.

Definitely not, but we've seen that poor draft prospects haven't stopped Arizona athletes much recently. I think he should have been planning 2 more years all along, but it sounds like the plan going into the year was this year only. That's definitely gone now.

That logic makes me insane.

Tate was a Heisman contender. The next QB probably won't be.

So, squander 2 years of Tate to benefit the inferior replacement.

More questions than answers of course.

Is the coaching staff not letting Tate run because they are putting in their system damn the consequences? Are they trying to develop Tate for the NFL? (big mistake since only through his running is he going to get a sniff at a position other than QB which he has no shot at.)

Did Tate get a giant ego and think he's Joe Montana or something?

Is the O-line that much worse than last year that he can't run?

In the last case, I say redshirt him, turn the offense over someone who isn't that big a running threat like little Rod and prepare Tate for next year, hopefully with a better line.

Arizona Wildcats defensive end Justin Belknap could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken foot in practice Thursday.

Belknap, a redshirt junior, has started most of the past two-plus seasons. He has six tackles and one QB hurry this year. For his career, Belknap has 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 26 games.

Belknap is scheduled to have surgery Monday. The recovery timetable is 8-12 weeks. If it’s closer to eight weeks, Belknap conceivably could return for the end of the regular season.

Anything more than 2-10 this year will be a huge success. People really underestimated how bare RR left the roster. This wasn't a come in and win 9+ with Tate right away team.. this is a 3-4 year long term, painful rebuilding project. Maybe by 2020 we can think of winning like 7-8 games.

I don't think its as bad as the ass hater says it is but on the other hand it isn't good. I think our offensive line is developing but our defensive line may be bigger but they sure aren't better. A win is a win and I'll take it. We did score 62 points.

Scum, to be fair, no one east of Boulder gets P12Net anyways, so they don't get to watch anyways.

But really, Pac12 has completely fucked itself and fans of its schools.

Our game was on a channel that no one gets, at a time that no one except Hawaii can stay awake for the entirety of the game.

Think about that everyone. The Pac12 has actually made it more difficult for its fans to watch games.
