Because we used a tight end so much this year.

I don’t get it either. I like the kid from Germany, and like you said we rarely use a TE. What’s over looked is the guy we did land today. Brothers played for Florida (he’s in the NFL) & the other is on Alabama.

It just feels like there's no urgency with Football. Let's take our time hiring a DC and if we lose commits, oh well.

What DC would want to join this dumpster fire?

How long did it take for the ADs to get rid of Niya Butts, one of the worst coaches in UA history? Think at one time her teams lost 12 out of 13 to ASU. Just a huge money drain on the UA AD.

And look how quickly Adia Barnes has turned that program around!

Although it's much easier to do when you have 13 scholarship athletes instead of 85.

Question - Who signs today? Anyone? Prognosis does not look good.

Is that still a thing in Tucson? Signing recruits?

Judging by the results on the field I thought we were just handing uniforms and helmets to anyone who participates in a Punt, Pass & Kick competition on the Mall.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

DE Regen Terry signed so that’s a good get. USC was after him late.
Both are underrated. We really need to land RBFrank Brown in February

This new Juco TE Stacey Marshall we just landed out of the great state of Alabama passes the eye test. Not a lot of sizzle on the offer list, but the kid balled in a great football state such as Alabama.

6’5” 250 pounds

I like it!

*Edit*

Watched his film. Not only is this kid a blocking beast, pancaking big DT’s he also has great hands. Noel sure as Hell better get this TE on the field and contributing to meaningful minutes in 2020 or he needs to be fired immediately!

This kid is a fucking beast. I will cheer for him!

Sid, Sid, Sid, Mazzone has never used a TE and I doubt he modified his offense to take advantage of that size with a QB who would really use him around the goal line. In stead we will throw outside to smurfs or ho underneath on third and long

I see OT in this young man's future. I remember talking to Jim Michalczik about TE's with size and he loves moving them to Tackle, especially if he's a strong blocker.

On a different note,
Why can a school like Baylor recruit so well in most sports?
Is it just because they are in TX?

Why would he not be? He is definitely not going pro, unless he has dreams of some league other then the NFL and he will not be getting more PT at any college other than UofA.

He was a transfer threat. His family likes the DC hire, so he's staying, which led to Brendan coming as well.

Urgency? None from this staff.

Hell, is there anyone in this whole blasted AD who understands just how much of ASU's hind tit "UArizona" is sucking in football?

Gonzaga could start a team this fall with just the local kids and beat our current roster. Just pathetic how little anybody in/around the program cares about results even off the field (read: recruiting) anymore.

It really is like we have given up, from Heeke on down. Not DWWD, but We Are Who We Are.

Maybe, but that's got every one of the alums from the Tomey and Smith eras either actively p*ssed off or openly disillusioned with current leadership. Like following the lead of Antonio Pierce.

But when you're resolved to be rinky-dink, whoever built your previous rep doesn't count for sh*t, I guess.

I am so done. We as alumni and fans are being so disrespected by this willful incompetence. I do not, and will not, support welfare queens no matter what form they take. Not backing this nag anymore.

Normally I just view posts like yours as just whiny ranting but I am starting to agree with you. I don't even hear a word on a defensive line coach. Last I heard was over a week ago about the guy from UofNM and nothing since. I don't blame Harris for bolting to Colorado.

The Arizona football program has had a gaping wound in its plan of attack called RECRUITING ever since getting rid of Mike Stoops.

For a solid decade now--and, excluding the Stoops era, since 1999--not only has nobody been brought in who cares to recruit, there is literally nobody in the AD who has a clue about how to find someone who will IMPROVE our recruiting--or who even KNOWS HOW.

"Whiny ranting"? This fan's support has been angrily, specifically on the wane since the 2018 Houston game. Everybody around the program is so lost in their own cloud of ignorance or just complacently accepting their paycheck that the RECRUITING elephant in the room just keeps knocking over everything, and now defecating actively over the rubble of what's left in terms of support.

Our big-money boosters aren't idiots. They won't be used forever. Improved recruiting starts by securing your local talent, and Sumlin's just waved goodbye as it goes elsewhere in the conference. In droves.

I've never seen more of a disconnect between a college town's college football program and its prospective high school talent. It's like this coaching staff is too afraid to even leave Arizona Stadium and go knocking on some parents' doors to sell the program.

And without any word on a defensive line coach, the Tucson kids will continue to bolt. And this staff will continue to be stuck fishing for JUCO talent in New Mexico or Texas. Because the more prized recruits are savvy enough to figure out that University of Arizona football coaches, until complete change is made and our AD establishes a vision for football reform, are just in Tucson for a sunny, low-cost place to retire.

Hansen's Sunday Notebook: Recruiting miss puts Kevin Sumlin, Wildcats in negative light again

Losing Jason Harris latest in series of UA’s recruiting, staffing blunders

Arizona lost four-star defensive line legacy prospect Jason Harris to Colorado on Thursday, capping a head-shaking series of decisions that began after Rich Rodriguez hired touted defensive coordinator Marcel Yates away from Boise State in 2016.

All of which have been symptomatic of Arizona’s collapse in Pac-12 football.

RichRod had fired defensive line coach Bill Kirelawich, and one of Yates’ first suggestions was that Arizona hire North Carolina State defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen, a former USC lineman. Instead, RichRod hired Vince Amey, whose only coaching experience had been at Scottsdale Chaparral High School.

Nielsen is now the defensive line coach of the New Orleans Saints. Amey, fired along with RichRod, was unable to find another college coaching job and is with the XFL’s Los Angeles Wildcats.

When Kevin Sumlin was hired, Yates recommended Arizona hire UTEP defensive coach Andrew Browning, who had grown up in the Boise State system and impressed Yates.

Sumlin declined to hire Browning, who was soon hired by Cal coach Justin Wilcox and is now the D-line coach for the resurgent Golden Bears program. Sumlin chose to hire a junior college D-line coach, Iona Uiagalelei, who had never coached a Division I football game. He was fired in November.

All this time, Harris and his mother and father, former Arizona letterwinners Sean and Cha-Ron Harris, were paying close attention to the situation at their alma mater. Their son, sophomore defensive lineman Jalen Harris, was playing for Uiagalelei, who struggled to coach at the Pac-12 level. Things got so bad that at midseason, Yates began splitting his time three ways: as defensive coordinator, safeties coach and, ultimately, spending part of each day in the D-line room, helping Uiagalelei.

In the meantime, Colorado head coach Mel Tucker continued to aggressively recruit Jason Harris, a prospect who plays the most difficult position at which to acquire quality players in college football. Tucker’s defensive line coach is Jimmy Brumbaugh, who had been the co-defensive coordinator at Maryland, and had coached the D-line for Mark Stoops at Kentucky and Les Miles at LSU. Brumbaugh, a former starting defensive lineman at Auburn, has coached 112 college football games.

Meanwhile, six weeks after Arizona fired its defensive line coach, Sumlin still hasn’t announced a replacement. Hello? Anybody home? Arizona is going to have to live with the recruiting and staffing mistakes for years.

In all sports, not just football, the Pac-12 will eat you alive if you’re not on top of your recruiting game every day. As of Saturday, Rivals.com ranked Arizona No. 64 nationally — one spot behind Tulane and one spot ahead of Bowling Green.

Sure, a few big name legacy football recruits in Tucson have chosen to play elsewhere. In the 1980s, UA linebackers coach Tom Roggeman had two four-star linebacker recruits in his own home: sons Buck and Rock Roggeman chose to play at Stanford and Notre Dame, respectively. Roggeman said that as much as he wanted his sons to be Wildcats, he also wanted them to pursue their own paths, not his.

But losing a prospect of Jason Harris’ stature to a Pac-12 rival a month after Salpointe Catholic High School’s Bijan Robinson, Lathan Ransom and Bruno Fina signed with Texas, Ohio State and UCLA, is an 0-for-4 embarrassment that reflects on the dire future of what has become the Pac-12’s losingest program since 2000.

On the day Sumlin was hired in 2018, College Football Hall of Fame linebacker Ricky Hunley, a UA legend and the man who coached on the defensive staffs of the Florida Gators, Missouri Tigers, Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins, flew to Tucson in hopes of being hired by his alma mater. After a brief chat, Hunley was rebuffed. Sumlin hired Uiagalelei, a JC coach, instead.

Yates has been made the scapegoat of Arizona’s 5-7 and 4-8 seasons. But it all begins and ends with Sumlin.
