Pac-12 Commissioner
Okay, everybody can relax. ASU AD Ray Anderson has announced that he's NOT going to apply for the open Pac-12 Commisioner job, despite the fact that he'd get a minimum of a million dollar annual raise, and probably closer to two million. And it just may really be because he was never in a million years going to be seriously considered for it, when you recognize that names like Alabama's AD Greg Byrne, Ohio State AD Gene Smith, and former West Virginia AD Oliver Luck are leading candidates, along with some well-connected television executives. In addition, his boss, ASU President Michael Crow, is one of only two remaining league presidents from the original vote for Scott. Considering how that turned out, and how outspoken he has always been in favor of Scott, Crow is now on the outside looking in. Anybody think the rest of the league presidents want a Commisioner who would have Crow whispering in his ear? In other news, I am hereby announcing I am NOT going to run for President of the United States in 2024. I realize that's a huge disappointment to many, but even if drafted, I will not run. The nerve and unjustifiably inflated egos of some of these idiots is astonishing.

I don't know, I could do more for the Pac-12 than Larry ever did.

Greg Byrne is going to be a finalist for this job at the very least.

Well he certainly knows how fucked up PAC-12 Networks is, so he could get quickly to unfucking it, hopefully.

Re: Pac-12 Commissioner
I hope he gets it. I know some people here are lukewarm on his tenure with Arizona, but he clearly understands how you need money and exposure to be competitive.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:07 pm Greg Byrne is going to be a finalist for this job at the very least.
Right now, the Pac has neither. We generally don't have a single program in the top 20 nationally in revenue and Scott's disastrous TV deal gives us a minimal national profile.
We had ~55 million a year in revenue when he took over and about ~90 million a year when he left. Those are the kind of things that need to change in the Pac if we're going to be nationally competitive.

Ultimately the conference needs a guy who understands the importance of football and understands the problems the conference has. Byrne qualifies on both counts.

Step 1 - Move the conference headquarters to Las Vegas
Step 2 - Beg someone to take this shitty network off our hands
Step 3 - Bang my secretary on a Zoom call immediately sabotaging my reign and netting me a handy multi-million dollar payout to go away

Both issues come back to a single unifying principle.

I hate Byrne as much as most of us do, but can't deny that he is supremely qualified for this.

He has first hand knowledge of the failures of the PAC-12 and the successes of the SEC.

Does Mrs. Chicat approve of this plan?

I think that would be a “decent proposal”

Re: Pac-12 Commissioner
Or you could go Jeffrey Toobin and your secretary wouldn't have to be involved on the Zoom call.
