Researchers find ASU-UA most intense football rivalry

http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/c ... /19427691/
The academic verdict is in supporting what Arizona State and Arizona fans always claim.

The Territorial Cup, coming up Friday, is the most intense rivalry in major college football according to a study by Dr. Joe Cobbs of Northern Kentucky and Dr. David Tyler of Western Carolina.

"It's eye catching to say most intense and in some ways it is," said Cobbs, who has studied sports rivalry for five years with Tyler and created the web site knowrivalry.com to showcase their research. "You can think about it with another term as the most focused rivalry. We're careful as researchers with the language we use, but the word intensity is more fun."

What Cobbs and Tyler discovered through fan surveys is that the ASU-UA rivalry rates higher in their aggregated points system than any other Football Bowl Subdivision rivalry.

Will there be any sort of "-out" for the big game? Black-out for Black Friday?

I say, forget black-outs, white-outs, red-outs, etc. - since ASU's still butthurt over their OSU loss, we should have a BEAV-OUT just to f with the opposition... dress in brown, kidnap Sparky and put a big tail and teeth on him.

I also would like to hear Greg Byrne say "this friday! beavers out at Arizona Stadium!"

*sad trombone sound*

Will Richard Rod allow dancing on the sidelines like UA did after the first touchdown drive last time they played in Tucson? All the players and fans went full Disco Fever, which was even more funny considering the outcome of the game!!!

Cats open as a 4.5 point favorite. Coincidentally, UCLA opens as a 4.5 point favorite over Furd

Hm. I was thinking it would be a pickem or even Asu favored by a point or two. Probably will slide in Asu's direction before kickoff though

Vegas Insider finally puts up a line and it's UA -4.5 vs Assu.

From the FWIW files, Ucla is also -4.5 vs Stanford.

RRod needs to throw a copy of the asu/TTech bowl game into the DVR and study it.

The TTech coach completely dismantled Crackers blitz defense in their bowl game last year.

Hey DMJ, if DC is the kool aid drinking posterboy for being dead on balls accurate in countering your prediction of wazzu, Utah, 9 wins, not being favored for any games after Cal and a few other things then sign , me up for his analysis.

I know you were glad we won but you should change that sig to, "thank you DC for being right"

Jason Nimrichter with the first comprehensive breakdown of the week:
The reason the quarterback should find success is simple: Arizona should be able to run the ball against an Arizona State defense that ranks 9th in the conference in rush defense, giving up 159.6 yards per game on the ground. If the Sun Devils feel the need to add an extra man or two in the box, it will take just a little bit of attention from the talented and deep UA wide receiver corps.

Whether Solomon can go or not, the game plan should call for plenty of running and, when it comes to throwing the ball, finding your biggest play-makers in space and allowing them to go to work.

Forgot where I saw it, but believe ASU is LAST in giving up big play touchdowns. Time to see how long Scroggins can throw it.

They're scroungers. They eat the shit from other fish that collects on the sea floor.

You see, a weak devil might be gerbil-ish, and the deep sea is far from the sun, and something to do with the trident fork...i don't know.

I've heard a lot of different "bad" nicknames for ASsU (and assu happens to be my preferred one) but I've never heard Sea Gerbil before
I've heard it ever since they switched from a pitch fork to a trident.

Humbly request that we use the more traditional "Scum Devils". No explanation needed.

Only played 6 games his freshman year. Usually you can only play first four for a medical redshirt. Wonder what his chances are?

Good Gimino article on the game.
For the first time since Arizona joined the Pac-10 in 1978, the Wildcats head into their final game of the regular season with a chance to win the conference title.

So Grandon had to go and run his mouth an say that even though Jaelen Strong is a great receiver, he doesn't respond well if you get physical with him.
Nice bulletin board material for the Scummies Jourdan.

RR already had to walk back his comment and say that he was wrong.

I hate Arizona State. I hate their players, I hate their coaches, I hate their fans, I hate their attitudes, I hate their stadiums and arenas and the videos they play in them, I hate their admissions standards, I hate the school and almost everything associate with it (They do have some honey's and Rob Evans just sucked).

I enjoy the location of my apartment (a few miles from ASsU) but I hate everyone in my complex who goes to ASsU who yells at me when I go to my car or the mailbox in my UofA gear. I hate the d-bag at the gym that is there all the time that is on Dirty Scottsdale all the time who wears his ASsU gear and talks and texts on his blackberry all the time and just sits at equipment and won't let me or anyone else work in when he is just sitting there texting.

I hate people yelling at me before ASU UA games cursing at me and calling my parents inappropriate things when I am walking in, or calling me a f^g for wearing a Zona Zoo shirt. I hate the decendents of the people who yelled at Steve Kerr. I hate ASsU football fans who think they are amoung the elite of college football with the likes of Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, when they have beaten ZERO ranked teams the last two years and get embarrased on national televised games.

I hate Jake Plummer, Kyle Dodd, James Harden, Rudy Carpenter, that Kruger Kid, Dennis Erikson, Courtney Simpson, the entire softball team, and Cuba Gooding Jr. the most, but I hate everyone else to ever put on an ASsU uniform.

So with all that said, GO CATS, BEARDOWN ARIZONA, and make us proud to not be scum on Sunday.

Just thought I would post that old post, even though it needs to be updated.
