As of this post, line is Oregon -22.5 to -23.5. It is a good thing I don't live in Vegas cause I would bet on AZ guaranteeing a horrible loss. This way, we have a chance.

Bondo wasn't listed as a starter last game but started. RR depth chart doesn't mean too much.

The vulnerability in this undefeated group of Wildcats right now is in the slot and at right corner--which I'm pretty sure are two positions going up against each other in practice every day.

Samajie Grant is fast and slippery but recovering from injury--and still IMHO not as proven as Nate Phillips, whom we will probably see a lot of Thursday.

Right corner is all kinds of unknown right now. Denson or Holiday stepping up would be huge, as you never hear McCall's number called and McKnight is turning out not to be the shutdown corner we envisioned his freshman year.

If Arizona can get a first-year or sophomore year burst from any two of those players starting Thursday, we become the most dangerous team in the conference.

Good story on 2 star Scooby from Berk posted at azcentral.
Wright has four of the team's nine sacks through four games.

"I like moving down a lot," Wright said. "You always have a big, fat offensive lineman blocking you. You just make a move or a power rush. I like that a lot. You're just coming down and playing the ball and getting after the quarterback."

It's a dream role for a former two-star recruit, whose UA offer out of high school was the only one from the Pac-12.

"None of these teams gave me the time of day," Wright said. "It just gives you a little extra fuel every week."

Here is Finley and some guy he pulled out of the early bird special line at Golden Corral talking about the Oregon game. Let me sum it up for you: We have no chance of winning, our defense isn't good enough, and we are only playing to not embarrass ourselves on national TV. There is no meaningful insight in the video, just 2 guys who are paid to be experts on the local team saying there is not even a chance they can win because, you know, Arizona's defense sucks and Mariota is great and we don't have time for anything else 'cause print media is dying and we need to update our resumes.

I don't mind a harsh assessment, after all we are 23 point underdogs, but we deserve better football experts than these two flakes. How about some actual analysis? What are Oregon's weaknesses and why was Mariota sacked 7 times last game? Who should we worry about on Oregon besides Mariota? What Arizona players need to step up to keep us in the game?

This is the most difficult game on our schedule, but I like our chances better then I did last year when we were also 20 point underdogs and the crotchety guy from the Golden Corral line also thought we had no chance of winning. What we have to do this year is the same thing we had to do last year;

be able to run the ball,

Image

Image

get some stops against Oregon,

Image

execute our offense,

Image

Image

win the turnover battle,

Image

Image

and play to win the game not just to avoid embarrassment.

Image

Now I realize our 2 intrepid Daily Star reporters may have missed last year's game while they were busy in the press box discussing which southern Arizona golf courses would give the 1965 Utah St football players the best chance to beat the 1972 Padres in a best ball golf tournament, but we won last year with a mostly one-dimensional offense and the same defensive scheme. We may be heavy underdogs, but we have a chance and the team is heading to Oregon to try and win.

Image

The team is going to Bear Down and try to win, Arizona fans should Bear Down and cheer for a victory, and the Star football experts, well, they can go duck themselves.

The AZ Star has been on a downward trend for years (ever since it was purchased by big company) and is now a joke.

Az can win this game. however, we must stay poised and play mistake free.

The Oregon preview by the Sports Guys is available at Fox Sports. Good episode and Jake Fischer with weeks of professional media experience provides more insight to the game than all of the Daily falling Star's brain trust.

This is the first week rivals has made this subscribers only. Not sure it is the best move. Sports Guys is by far their best content as well as the best video cast available on Arizona Football, but it is not well known enough yet that people are going to join the site just for these videos. When it was free at least these videos brought new viewers to the site with the chance of winning subscribers. I love me some Sports Guys, but I'm not willing to pay rivals (and Mao) for it once my subscription expires.

Edit: I updated to the link to be the FSA site. Less Mao, more freedom.

Like the past two years, Arizona will disrupt the duck offense, but I think they figure out they need to pass on the Cats. We've got a shot if "second half Anu" starts the game, but UA's not a the point where I would predict a win.

Javier Morales with 5 other story lines on the Oregon game.
2. Broadcasters: Let’s get Anu’s name pronunciation right.

A friend of mine from Hawaii asked me with a frustrated tone the other day, “It (makes me mad) the way his name is pronounced by people,” my friend said. I edited what he actually said. You get the picture.

“It’s pronounced Ahun-oo, not Ann-oo or A-nu.”

So the slogan, “Anu Era”, does not really work.

I confess to using that before. Won’t ever again.
Oregon has the nation’s longest streak of seven years finishing in the AP Top 25 dating to 2007.

Arizona has finished in the rankings in consecutive years only once in 1993 and 1994.

No offense to your friend but he should stop being upset about people pronouncing it exactly as it reads. 99.9% of sportscasters, play by play, color guys, students, alumni and fans do not know the intricacies of Polynesian pronunciation.

Can't blame it all on Broadcasters etc...

Arizona communications team in 2014 Media guide and their weekly games notes instruct to pronounce:

Anu Solomon..... "AH-new"

Daily Wildcat included this beginning of Spring:
Anu Solomon has heard many different pronunciations of his name.

From “ann-oo” to “A-nu,” the freshman Arizona quarterback has heard them all, and he has no problem correcting someone when they mispronounce his name.

“It’s pronounced ahun-oo,” Solomon said to members of the media. “It’s Hawaiian and it’s actually my middle name.”

Anu’s full name is Jarrett Anu Solomon, but he prefers his Hawaiian middle name, Anu.

The guys at AFO found this fun read from the Oregon SB Nation team - "Why you should hate Arizona!"
Their campus/city: I’ve never been to Arizona but that isn’t going to prevent me from speaking about it ignorantly. I envision it being a lot like Palm Springs and MY, WAS THAT PLACE HOT! It’s a microwave. You take a shower, step out, and immediately feel the sudden need to shower again because you’re ALREADY SWEATING. The places in Arizona where humans decided it was adequate to develop are littered with sprawling beige suburbs and mini-malls. EVERYTHING IS BEIGE. The University of Arizona’s campus looks like a barrio. Every college across the America strives to at least have an appealing campus. Arizona can’t because they’re ants under a microscope, and water is essentially a scarce resource in the state. At least ASU has Phoenix. Tucson is like Fresno with cactuses.

No. He has never been to Tucson in the summer.

Obviously he has never been to FL, NY, the midwest and so on in the summer time.

Perhaps after a monsoon, but that is for a very short period.
