1000% agreed. I just don't think fighting with a kid is right about that. I get that our special teams unit has sucked for a couple years now but I wouldn't tell a player that your coach sucks and you're too ignorant to see that.

A "program changer" though? He was never a starter on a somewhat offensively challenged Michigan team. I'm drawing a blank on potential "program changer" QB talent in the portal though.
Ryan Hilinski could turn some things around for us.
I do think Hilinski would be an upgrade for sure, but he still doesn't scream program changer to me. I know he has been through a lot but he did get beat out for the starting job. Maybe my program changer definition is just too high. Hopefully, new scenery will be good for him and he will be able to live up to his rated potential coming out of HS.
I think you have to look beyond Hilinski's career at South Carolina and instead look at it from the perspective of A) where our program is right now, and B) what a player of Hilinski's status (whether he's lived up to it yet or not) considering us and choosing us would mean for the trajectory of our program.

Getting the best QB in the transfer portal would change the perception of our program before he ever steps onto the field.

Bingo. Big difference between being right and being a dick to a 20 year old kid. I've never interacted with him and I just can't stand that guy. Needs anger management or something.

You make some fair points. I guess I just feel like we have been mediocre to bad for a long time and I don't think Hilinski will change that (i.e. program changer). Now if your talking going from bad to mediocre again, then sure but that is pretty much what Arizona has always been. Maybe my definition is just unrealistic.

It does already feel like Fisch has built some new hire momentum though and I hope it continues. If Hilinski does come here and Fisch doesn't continue to get higher level talent then nothing will really change as it is going to take a lot to fix this team.

We were about to have no one at WR. Now 3 coming right back. At this point we'll probably be okay. Still want the SJSU kid though.

I want that kid from sjsu too but I don't see it happening now. Our receiving room went from nothing to kinda crowded. I know he's probably better than anything we got but it'd be a risk for him because there's a lot of receivers who have seen the field on this roster

Very much would have preferred finding a way to bring back Berryhill instead. Boobie was on the field a lot last year, probably more than any other WR, and only had 10 catches. We could still use the SJSU receiver if he is an option.

A lot of people are underestimating the importance of coaching, development, and most importantly culture in a football program. Talent can win you a championship, but a collection of three stars who are well coached and who believe in the team can be dangerous. And right now - that's all we're asking for. Put a competitive team on the field. The bigger recruits who can help us contend for a title will come if they see that (and so will the fans).

Very impressed with the coaching staff getting those 3 guys back, especially Boobie. Only because he basically came here with Gunnell and now he is staying while Gunnell dipped out. While I have not been overly impressed with his production I am ok with keeping him around. Giddy that we kept Ma'jon Wright. Really like his potential.

Still want Tre Walker.

Just look at Iowa St. Matt Campbell and staff has done a great job while averaging high 30's to mid 40'a in recruiting ranking.

I've always thought recruiting success at Arizona would be consistently being in the mid 30's nationally. We lack the resources to expect to be a whole lot better on a regular basis, IMO.

But, that sort of talent level can grow into a regular top 25 team with solid retention and development. That has always been what Arizona should aim for in a coach and program. HS talent in the 30's that grows into college talent that exceeds that rank.

With the 3 receivers already deciding to come back I'm assuming Fisch has a pretty darn good QB in mind to lead his team. That would be one of the questions I would ask if I were a receiver deciding whether to come back to AZ or not.

Don't you think?

by getting receivers to return from the portal like Joiner tells me that the players know who is most likely coming.

I think a lot of these kids coming back is more finding out the portal is a dark place... There won't be spots for everyone and they can't visit schools. I'm taking "they actually want to come back" with a grain of salt

Davonte started at both corner and receiver during different seasons- including in a New Years 6 Fiesta Bowl. He never lived up to expectations but if Isaiah is a competent, servicable corner at Neals its a huge upgrade over a lot of the guys we've had trying to fill out a two deep over the past few years. Davonte would likely have been the best corner on the team this season by a country mile.

Curious if anymore players are coming. Wouldn't shock me to see the SJSU wideout, and I have to think a bonafide QB. Hilinski is a leader of men and I'd love to have him here- I admire the heck out of that family.

Anyone good at scholarship limit math? I am wondering how many more spots we have for next year. I count us at 23 additions for next year (assuming Millen and Ossai sign with us) leaving only two spots for new additions, but I know there are a lot of things to consider that doesn't count (i.e. early enrollees this year, early enrollees next year, grey shirts, etc.). I am hoping we can add a few more players specifically at LB, CB, S and OL.

Signed 15
Hard commits 3
Transfers 5
Spots left 5

We just got a commitment from a safety from Florida. 247 hasn't ranked him. I believe he is the son of former nfl player Jason Taylor. Nephew of Cowherd's co-host Joy Taylor.

Did some digging- Simpsons' HS also produced Dwight Freeney. Not that it speaks to the level of competition, but it looks like the public schools in Hartford are in the same conference so I would presume its the largest schools in the state. Hopefully hes a player, hope he enjoys the heck out of being an Arizona Wildcat, but it feels a little Rich Rod bringing kids from Key Westy
