Its because I talked trash on him when he committed

I hate football recruiting so much

Where is UALOCO to say what we all need to hear...I will not get excited about Arizona football recruiting

Apparent he got better offers from probably local schools

I think Sumlin is going to realize quickly too heavy a focus on a Texas is fools gold. We should get 3-5 players from there every year but we can get better talent from Cali, Arizona, and Vegas. With those guys you only really need to worry about Oregon or USC or UCLA offering late. With Texas kids you worry about any SEC school or Texas or Oklahoma or Oklahoma state or Texas tech or Baylor or TCU etc.

It would be extremely stupid to throw away all the connections the coaches have created in Texas. Recruiting sucks across the board.

They shouldn’t throw them away at all but I think they are going to learn quickly how much different it is trying to recruit a Texas kid to Arizona then Texas A&M

Texas A&M sales pitch is about as easy as it gets (beautiful facilities, tons of NFL players, in Texas, in the SEC)

What is puzzling is he only had one other offer, and it was from South Dakota State.

Not sure what's puzzling at all really. You take the local kid who's been under evaluated. He's obviously been putting in the work to get the offer and it looks like he has the frame to mold and add onto.

Positives and Negatives

Positives
This recruit looks like he is very well built and has a good frame to add more good weight so to speak.
The coaches just saw him live and in person at a camp so they were not blind in offering him a scholarship
He is a local product. If you ever stretch to me stretch on local product as less of a chance they leave due to homesickness etc. Also just always hate when we dont offer a tucson player and then they blow up later somewhere else like Aaron Tevis or Blake Martinez
We need more OL so position of need.

Negatives
Had no other competitive offers
Why take him now, couldnt we have waited since we were his dream school?
Feels exactly like an #OKG recruit

Have to admit, the only thing that seems different about Sumlin's recruiting compared to Rich Rod's is our ability to get top level QB talent.

I am all for recruiting local kids and happy but there are those on this board who ripped RichRod and Stoops for taking the kids that were recruited by small schools. I am happy for Jordan and hope he kicks butt.

I was one of those people and rightfully so. If we ever want to make a Rose Bowl we need talented players. The evidence is very clear that talented players are typically players who are highly recruited.

Now I am not blind to the extreme structural deficiencies our program faces. I have made it very clear for years how important an Indoor practice facility would be for us unlike your friends Irish over at uasports.net who used to rip me when I said that and we didn't need it.

However, I see no reason why we can't finish between 25-35 every year in the recruiting rankings especially now we with the new Indoor facility coupled with Lowell Stevens. To do that we need some 4 star guys mixed with high 3 star guys and the occasional project 2 star.

I would like to make a Rose Bowl at some point in my lifetime. No one is going to convince me that the way to do that is taking classes of Low 3 star and 2 star players because that has never worked before. It did not work for Stoops or Rich Rod and it will not work with Sumlin. I am hopeful he elevates our recruiting as its the only way for us to have more success. If not, we will be the average program we have basically always been.

Jordan Morgan is a 3 star recruit according to 24/7. Glad to add to a position we seem to be thin at with a local product. Let's not have another Levi Wallace going on in our own backyard

I also agree you stretch on local players for sure

Jordan was only moved to a very low end three star player after committing to us

It's been 4 months really and without a season of results to build on. I won't judge the recruiting until it's signing day 2020 and it hasn't improved at all.

I am going to agree with DMJ but like Hater not panic. Our two lineman, one a transfer walk on and the other a sleeper is a bit of a head scratcher.

ASUHATER! wrote:It's been 4 months really and without a season of results to build on. I won't judge the recruiting until it's signing day 2020 and it hasn't improved at all.
This is the levelheaded reality, and I'll wait until SD too (the first one), but unfortunately I'm getting a little antsy because this is starting out EXACTLY like a RichRod class in the sense all the marbles go into landing the 4 star QB and meanwhile the rest of the roster is rounded out with undersized and nominally recruited talent (especially WR/SS/CB) or just neglected until only scraps are left (DL). Although I was generally pleased with LB & OL recruiting.

I don't expect four star talent across the roster, but isn't it discouraging that a host of other equivalently ranked (40 - 60?) schools like Iowa State, Utah, North Carolina, Pitt, Kentucky, etc are able to fill in many of their spots with 3-stars with competitive P5 offers as opposed to the RichRod rosters filled with too many guys whose only other offers were from the Mtn West?

Hoping for a little more at this point.

I certainly understand everyone's concern but the chicken little routine is a bit premature I think. This isn't like a RichRod class at all. RichRod's class would have been all but filled out by now. What does he have like three commits? I've seen the offer list and Sumlin hasn't spared the horses on who he's offered. Take a breath, you won't be able to do a thing about it anyway.

3-star linebacker Derrion Clark commits to Arizona
The UA received a commitment from three-star linebacker Derrion Clark on Saturday. Clark attends South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker is the No. 1,826 player in the 2019 class, per 247Sports composite rankings. Clark is also the No. 78 inside linebacker and No. 299 player in the state of Texas.

He is officially visiting Arizona this weekend. The UA was his only Power-Five offer.

Clark earned AP Class 5A first-team all-state honors as a junior and sophomore. In 12 games in 2017, Clark tallied 111 tackles, 19 sacks, and 26 tackles for loss, per MaxPreps.
