Wow. Weird. Well at least they play in different divisions and didn't play this year.

That is actually not a bad match up. Did they play each other during the season?

Might go down for that in support of the game planners. Lord knows Tucson needs a win

Heard the Az bowl couldn't pay the minimum for a pac12 team. Nm pays half a million which is half of the Dallas and independence bowls. With all the bowls sharing, and with so many pac teams in bowls, doubt the share is a lot and going to take a huge loss to a bowl no one will go to from Tucson.

If the game wasn't at 530 on a Tuesday I'd almost certainly go to the az bowl. If it was on Sunday the 27th instead I'd love to go and I couldn't care less about Colorado state or Nevada

After botching the Kansas State game, I'm hearing Holgerson's job retention comes down to winning this bowl. Meaning he'll have it in him to field a competitive product come Jan 2.

WVU looking for a new coach on Jan 3? That is pretty late in the game. Pretty much guarantees a position coach or coordinator.

That's why I'm betting the WVU AD doesn't have the balls to pull the Holgorson plug. With so many openings still left and so much competition the pickings are way too slim, now or after the bowl. Just a terrible year to be looking for a new coach. If they'd beaten KState WV would be 8-4 with tangible improvement to show over the last few years and nobody would be complaining.

Funny what a difference one game can make for a coach's job security. I think they would be making a mistake as well. This hasn't really been a good year to judge Holgo by with some key injuries and the murderer's row in the middle of the schedule (I think by the time they finished that stretch of Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma and Okie St that those teams had combined for only one or two losses, the combined record was something like 24-2 or so.) If he can't put it together next year then you've got more go go off of. Otherwise you fire him after the bowl, pay a hefty buyout, watch your recruiting class get picked apart by other schools, and scramble to find a coach after everyone else has had their choice.

The buyout is another sticking point, and anoter reason the AD might wait until AFTER the Bowl; from the Washington Post:
One sticking point might be the cost of firing Holgorsen and hiring a new coach: around $15 million. About $8.725 million would go toward buying out Holgorsen and his staff, an amount that will decrease some after the first of the year. It might be worth it for Lyons to wait until after the Mountaineers’ Jan. 2 Cactus Bowl game against Arizona State to make a move, especially considering the coaching carousel has passed West Virginia by anyway.
Couldn't agree more, and because of this, there's reason to believe WVU will be one of the more motivated Bowl teams.

I'm starting to feel as if this will be a special season.

Not a season for the ages mind you, but one that I'll look back on a be pleasantly surprised from where we started.

And if so, I'll gladly and humbly eat crow.

3. Foster Farms Bowl vs. Big Ten
4. Hyundai Sun Bowl vs. ACC

It's 4th out of 7 positions. The Rose is usually 1st. Keep in mind that even if the PAC doesn't get a team in the playoffs the conference champ is most certainly in a New Years Six bowl.

I'm really curious to see what happens to the Las Vegas Bowl after the new stadium is built. At the very least that bowl will move up in the pecking order, hell it could become a BCS/Playoff bowl game based solely on location and new amenities. At the very least I'd love to see it become a Pac-12/SEC bowl game.

No need to set aside four hours for this game.

I'm not Chief but we'll need to finish 2nd in the South to get to the Holiday Bowl. The only way to guarantee that is to win out.
