if the schools truly care about student and the student athlete well being than all non education activities should be cancelled and school itself should be online.

Another issue with pushing all fall sports into the spring is officials. A lot of these officials work multiple sports. If all the sports are in the spring there could be a shortage of officials. They would probably figure it out but it would be another hurdle to jump.

Some people value human life, some value games with balls.

Not at all. Every sport operates on football revenue especially ticket sales. Even taking out salaries of coaches a those sports lose tons of money. We have seen tons of sports fold already as a result of lost basketball tv revenue. Take away a year of football TV revenue and tv salsa and thers will be very few ncaa sports going forward

The PAC has a Loan secured that each school could take (83m at 3.75% over 10 years) that is secured against the next TV rights contract. This would guarantee some longevity one would think

That's a bad thing?

rifle
rowing
skiing
fencing
bowling
lacrosse
water polo
field hockey
cross country

Make them club sports like the UA does with ice hockey.

While most here are in support of the kids getting a bigger chunk of the pie and controlling their likeness, I think it’s time to have a change in how they approach their time in college.

The first option would be to take the standard schollie and all that goes with that. Increase the stipend of cash but that is it.

The second option would be to enter into a business arrangement with the university where the player controls everything but must pay for his schollie, trainers, medical, nutritionist and food, his coaching, his books, his attorney fee’s , his marketing for his likeness and all things a normal business would assume. For this he gets unlimited profits from his ventures and a piece of the pie from revenues the UofA receives. Risk vs reward

Don't forget in the 2nd option, they will have to pay taxes. How many players will come out ahead in that senerio?

Well it’s definitely a corporate scenario with a profit and loss statement including the taxes. I think most might not be inclined to go that direction and opt for the first scenario. Of course I do think they need a much bigger piece of the pie across all NCAA sports but how you figure that number is beyond me.

One hope is this movement ends the NCAA. They are a most corrupt, out of date organization IMO

United to want to play. Headed by Lawrence and Fields.

They are #wewanttoplay

They note that they are safer playing football from the virus than not playing

Ok wait, now I am really confused. The players first were threatening there might be lawsuits if they Got the virus but now they are united and want to play? The universities were backing off the season but now are looking at playing because the players are united about playing? Do I have that right? Only in 2020 (what a misnamed year as nothing is clear)

I dont think the universities care what the student athletes think. The latest news is the B10 and P12 are pulling the plug tomorrow.

Pretty much. Both groups joined up together and dropped their financial demands.

Moot point anyway with the Big 10 and Pac 12 canceling their seasons, or delaying them at best. SEC still plans on playing though, but with the SEC football is more important than life anyway.

Players were not threatening to sue in the initial letter they sent last week.

They wanted to not be forced to sign waivers.

There is a difference

Not to say it would end college sports, but rather, college sports won’t be what it used to should its cash cow (football) be suspended for however long. For instance we’re already seeing Stanford and a number of other athletic departments permanently trimming certain sports within Title IX guidelines.

Unfortunately athletic departments operate like many aspect of our economy – on VERY thin margins. How many restaurants permanently shuttered after two months of zero net profit? The greater fear in all of this is just how much of economy is so finely tuned to its thin margins that unforeseen interruptions such as COVID irrecoverably throw the economy off-balance.

Only 20 FBS schools make money on athletics. That means 100 lose money, even when a pandemic wasn't even a thought. I imagine most FCS and Div II and III do too.

Meanwhile, Conference USA has said they are determined to play this fall, even with ODU cancelling their season.

How much of this is class-action hungry trial lawyers finding a medical detail with which to hold Universities hostage? This isn’t so much about a heart condition - it’s more so about lawyers positioning themselves for a payday at the expense of college football.

An organization fearing litigation doesn't mean they've had an army of ambulance-chasing lawyers beating down their door.

It means they don't want to set up a situation whereby they could be legally liable for something they could have prevented.

Grocery stores don't clean up spills in their aisles because there are lawyers outside with signs saying, "Did you slip and fall in the soda section?"

This idea that there is this vast sea of class-action hungry lawyers just waiting for a whole bunch of kids to get Covid is a strawman. Why wouldn't they be looking at restaurants, bars, gyms, summer camps, etc. first?
