Rumors swirling another D coach will be let go. That means, Hunley, Cecil or Kaufusi. Kaufusi is a Nansen pick so it sounds like one of our former cats might be gone

If we didn’t re-up Walker for Akina, I am not sure I am upset with that

Trying to think back but didn't we hire Akina during Stoops' tenure? Only for him to bail after like two weeks? Went to Texas? 2009 or 2010?

Huh?

According to NCAA rules, Akina can't personally coach the players. However, Fisch said Akina will likely have a hands-on coaching role.

Why would you hire a 5 star defensive position coach for a position where he can't recruit or coach? Or break NCAA rules like Fisch said.

It's my understanding that those rules are changing.

You are right:

“We expect the NCAA to open up some more rules, in terms of who can coach and who can’t coach, it has been a big part of discussions,” he said. “If you’re analyst can you coach, can you not coach? Right now, we believe that that will will change. So we want to get ahead of that.

Also of note:

Fisch intimated in his end-of-season press conference in late November that quarterback Gunner Cruz, who still has two seasons of eligibility, might pursue other opportunities in 2023. Turns out that involves staying in Tucson, but not as a player.

Cruz is serving as a graduate assistant for the Wildcats, working in the strength and conditioning program under Tyler Owens.

Kind of sad to see Gunner give up his career in football although he never had a pro career in his future. He could have gone to a lower level program and done well I think. Of course the contacts he has made through the UofA/NFL combination will help his coaching career much more

Hah, and Nick is still not working. Wonder if ASU interviewed him since Ducey is so anti-vax.
