I think Phoenix isn't pulling its weight. Less than 2 percent of the alumni there can't make it down for a game? Just a 100 minute drive...pathetic

I know people complain about the blue hairs at McKale, but I think many of us who are retirees or near retirees from out of the area would love to see a UA football game, esp. people like me who grew up and watched games in the fall with not so nice weather.

7 pm basketball games are OK for us old timers since they go only 2 hours or so.

But look at the 4 home games this year at Arizona Stadium.

7:30pm
8:00pm
7:00pm
7:30pm

That's for a 3 1/2 hour game. That gets pretty late.

For some of us, that's bed time. For the college kids, the parties start at half time.

6 pm games are ideal for that reason.

That's just it, though. 6pm is ideal to the 50K in the stadium, but not necessarily to the millions watching elsewhere and the machine that dictates who plays when and where.

The games and profits for the FBS schools are centered around the TV deals. Byrne, Dantonio, Saban, or anyone else can shake the trees and make their pleas but unless the Power 5 are willing to forgo the TV deals, the stadium experience will always rate lower and the paying fans in the seats will be made to bend to those who choose to watch at home or in the bars...the real revenue generators. No amount of marketing gimmicks can compete. Even winning isn't necessarily the panacea although it will surely help in the case of a starved fanbase like ours.

Anecdotally, Phoenix fans don't show-up, I've tried to get more of my friends to show up and they, foerthe most part, rather just watch on TV. It is easy for Tucson fans to criticize when they have a 10-30 min drive. That drive back is tough after a 3-4 hr game that started at 7:30pm.

Fan attendance for students is a problem in most stadiums. People are acting as if this is an isolated problem.

Yes, that is true. Not an isolated problem by any stretch. Students, that is.

Kyle seemed to be a big fan of Tomey type ball. Shutdown defense and 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Not sure how he felt about RR.

Me and him got into it one time, perhaps because he was calling out Arizona's shitty fans--(a pet peeve of mine after my 30 year love/hate relationship with AZ football)

I understand the issue but just don't think it's productive to try and shame Tucson into supporting football. Better to see if you can make the game day experience more attractive than to rely only on school and community spirit.

Anyway Kyle was pissed because I told him to f-off. He did accept my apology though so I had no real problem with the guy.

Can't wait for the BYU game in Glendale on 9/3/16. Wonder how many Tucson fans make the trip. You know Mesa is gonna show up.

I used to go to the 7up shootout at the America West Arena. Pretty good turnout but never sold out.

We typically sell-out Wells Fargo when we play the Devils. I imagine it is mainly Phoenicians.

Maybe we should move the whole campus to the State Fair Grounds..plenty of room if we demolish Encanto Golf Course and Veterans Memorial.

AAAhh..a boy can dream!.

Why would they need to be there that early when only a few students showed up and the time of the game. Use those college brains zoo. Did not help in the game at all.

It looked awful in person and on TV.

Lots of students sitting with parents on parent's weekend. We have this discussion seemingly every year. This year was worse than many, but a 1pm game in heat after 2 losses against OSU wasn't going to inspire a great zoo turnout anyway, then add students all over the place with their parents. That is why the west side stands were more packed than for UCLA.

ZonaZoo passes are prepaid. This just means that not enough students have reserved their seats online yet. Although, I guess it could imply the number of purchased ZonaZoo passes has decreased.

Zona Zoo not filling up for basketball actually means increased revenue, with the remaining tickets becoming available for sale to the public. Weird flex to attempt there

The difference is that the Basketball Team is saying many tickets are still available in the zoo. Never remember seeing that before. Always remember seeing that there were few tickets left etc. As well as tons of general tickets still being available for tomorrow

:) I think the team is going to have to play well and dominate bad teams before attendance gets maxed out again.

A lot of the general public has a bad taste with Miller and the team. Early exits and the “scandals”.

The other day I was listening to FRANK SHOW on KLPX. He said he was upset that Book took the fall for Miller.
Justin Spears (1490 ESPN) was the guest. He didn’t say a thing to correct Frank.
Spears also calls it the “Pay for Play” scandal on his own show.

When local guys are framing things this way I can see how the casual fan is going to have negative opinions.

EDIT: I get very few stations in my work vehicle, so don’t blast me for what I listen to.

This is not a Phoenix vs Tucson thing or saying Phoenix is so great so please dont take it that direction. But if this is happening it is on Tucson to correct it.

In Phoenix several shows on Arizona Sports, the flagship for the Dbacks Suns Cardinals and Scumdevils said the same thing. People called the out for it, called sponsors, called the station management and all the hosts. They corrected it and have had Scheer on their stations to talk about it.

Another show on 1580 was saying the same. That host was fired.

If this is happening call out Spears and the Frank Show. Call their management and sponsors. Get it corrected because it hurts UA to have this bullshit out there
