RhettRod #2 QB? I thought Gunnell was practicing with the 2nd team.

TATE WAS GREATER, LATER: Tate was especially strong late in the season for Arizona in 2018..
Guess the writer missed the Territorial Cup debacle.

UA was also 2-2 the last 4 games, with Tate rushing for about 120 yards total those 4 games.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if the first couple of games we see 8-10 guys getting regular snaps at receiver since we really don't know what we have there.

No doubt the biggest mystery is at the wide receiver position. Do we have talent there? A couple of local guys who played other positions most of their career getting the starting job does not excel a Tom of confidence IMO

Only like 3 guys above 6'1" at receiver though.

This was the second thing I noticed (after finally some beef on the DL). I already am catching myself looking ahead to next year. Lol.

I am going to be honest, I am excited at the prospect of redshirting Gunnell. Just keep Khalil healthy and Rhett serviceable enough to only have Grant play 4 games. Could be huge in the long run.

How long into this game is it acceptable for me to wait before I first call for Mazzone to be fired? First drive?

I'm not the biggest fan, so let's see how the first play turns out.

I don’t think the Sumlin era (and Mazzone) starts until Tate is out.

I kind of feel the same way. It was hard to put a ton of blame on Mazzone last year because Tate's decision making as a QB is terrible. With the late start to their first year, the staff's first recruiting class was just thrown together so hard to blame them for not getting a QB to challenge Tate (assuming Doyle is just a non factor at this point). Year 2 they get Gunnell, I really hope he can step in next year (if not this year) and put together a nice run as QB.

I am going to throw my foam brick at the TV if the Cats rush 3 and put 8 back in coverage on 3rd and long.

I don't know if Sumlin is a huge stats guy like Miller, but IIRC Cats were near last in the PAC on stopping 3rd and long.

About 8 guys were walking the streets at 9pm last night in Waikiki. I wish they would have been studying their play book instead but cant blame them. Go Cats

So much to unpack in this post

Machina casually mentioning this so we realize he's a *good fan* and is in Hawaii for the game.

Him yet again dictating what other people should be doing with their private free time 45 hours before the game with his aw shucks babe in the woods phrasing.

His little cheer at the end that is a punctuation to lazily wash over the previous garbage.

Two of the worst defenses in college football on full display in this one. Should be lots of scoring. I think we will see Tate continue to struggle this season. I've said all along he's not a quarterback. I predict by game 3 or 4 he won't even be starting. Honestly I think McDonald is much more talented as a passer. Conventional wisdom has the Cats winning. That's what makes me skeptical. Hawaii 45 UA 38 sounds about right.

This feels like a game we lose. I'm sure part of that is that I feel like the life of an Arizona football fan is waiting for the disappointment to start, but away game, Hawaii, season opener...
It still does.

I would think most of em since they beat us soundly last year.
Wanna try that again?
Yeah I think so. Certainly they have some athletes and they are opening up at home.

The team from Arizona that played Houston last year would be hard pressed to beat anybody.

Again, Hawaii by 7. Hope I'm very wrong.
Props to myself. I'm incredible. ....and we suck again.

To bad he was hit while his body was turning. A little more square with the end line and probably would have been hit into the endzone.

The "go for 2" debate would have been pretty interesting if Tate made it. Although I am pretty sure Sumlin would have had the PAT kicked and go into OT since the UA had momentum. The UH coach would have gone for 2 though since the UA couldn't stop anyone.

If we hadn't burned a timeout on the 4th attempt for that late FG, there would have (theoretically) been about 25-30 seconds left after that final play.
