any update on this situation?
The only thing I've heard is Demetrice Martin has been interviewed and Tim DeRuyter has been offered.PieceOfMeat wrote:any update on this situation?
Based on the situation at Arizona, I wouldn’t be surprised by Demetrius Martin being the new coordinator.azgreg wrote:The only thing I've heard is Demetrice Martin has been interviewed and Tim DeRuyter has been offered.PieceOfMeat wrote:any update on this situation?
Dave Heeke has sabotaged any chance at Arizona hiring a DC worth half a shit. Once that story came out public the only move Heeke could've made was to move on from Sumlin. Now he's trying to show support and stick with the guy. Bumbling fucking idiot.OSUCat wrote:Based on the situation at Arizona, I wouldn’t be surprised by Demetrius Martin being the new coordinator.azgreg wrote:The only thing I've heard is Demetrice Martin has been interviewed and Tim DeRuyter has been offered.PieceOfMeat wrote:any update on this situation?
Why would Tim DeRuyter leave Cal for this team? This just doesn’t make sense to me.
Position coaches, head coaches, and Coordinators leave their teams before the bowl game all the time. Seems like an excuse to drag the process out to so they can use Arizona to get a raise.
No decent DC is coming here with Sumlin likely to be fired after next year.ChooChooCat wrote:Dave Heeke has sabotaged any chance at Arizona hiring a DC worth half a shit. what exactly did we do to piss off antonio pierce so much?ChooChooCat wrote:Antonio Pierce is going to be ASU's new DC.
Not offer him a job at his alma mater?PieceOfMeat wrote:what exactly did we do to piss off antonio pierce so much?ChooChooCat wrote:Antonio Pierce is going to be ASU's new DC.
Hit him up for a very large donation as soon as he got drafted and then didn’t make him feel like a valued alumni around the program.Merkin wrote:Not offer him a job at his alma mater?PieceOfMeat wrote:what exactly did we do to piss off antonio pierce so much?ChooChooCat wrote:Antonio Pierce is going to be ASU's new DC.
For what it's worth, Burns and Gambo think DB coach Tony White has an equal or better chance to land the DC job. Has long history with Gonzalez. Did mention Pierce's recruiting might give him edge.ChooChooCat wrote:Antonio Pierce is going to be ASU's new DC.
I’m guessing someone that carries a bit of weight read my post and we announce at tomorrow’s PC that Antonio is coming home. A complimentary full body scrub and tug at Helga’s heavenly massage will be administered to remove the scum.azgreg wrote:Apparently there is a press conference scheduled for tomorrow at 2.
An ASU or UA press conference?azgreg wrote:Apparently there is a press conference scheduled for tomorrow at 2.
White was named the new DC. Pierce was named assistant head coach.ChooChooCat wrote:Antonio Pierce is going to be ASU's new DC.
Interesting. This seems like a way to get Pierce a raise to keep him happy because he brings in recruits but Herm didn't want to rely on him to be a coordinator.Irish27 wrote:White was named the new DC. Yeah surprising move. Every ASU fan I know thought it was going to be Pierce.DrWildcat wrote:Interesting. Yeah, now that I look at it, his resume isn’t actually all that solid. And it doesn’t look like he’s ever really had to recruit above our current level.Chicat wrote:Solid resume.
But can he recruit?
He was of course the head coach at Iowa State from 2009-2015, not Defensive Coordinator. His record as the DC at Pittsburgh was exceptional.scumdevils86 wrote:Meh. Defense at Iowa State

Looking at stats only is an incredibly dumb way of judging this hire.
He has experience in major conferences as a DC and HC. Very solid on the fundamentals. His players love him. Great speeches. Good recruiter who knows Southern California.azcat49 wrote:PHXCATS wrote:This is a very good hire. Not a home run hire, but a damn good hire.

How do, please explain? Not saying it’s not but not exactly doing cartwheels either. Curious as to what you think he brings
He’s in Tucson, isn’t he?MrBug708 wrote:I thought he was on the retirement train.

I just looked at his age, 52 only, so he's got some life left in himChicat wrote:He’s in Tucson, isn’t he?MrBug708 wrote:I thought he was on the retirement train.
With all that said he was still one of your top recruiters according to the numbersMrBug708 wrote:I thought he was on the retirement train. Our staff is mostly bad recruiters, though I think Rhoads didnt get enough credit for what he did. Our DB's werent very good and Im also not convinced it's not totally scheme as we played 10 yards off on 3rd and 3 a lot. He doesnt really have much recruiting ties in the west, but he's going to be a DC, not major recruiter either. He was in the back scenes more than the forefront at UCLA. He should have been DC over our current one, but he didnt come in as a friend of Chip's either
He won 3 games or less those final 3 years and you can obviously pinpoint why.scumdevils86 wrote:Meh. Defense at Iowa State

Well, we certainly brought in quantity in the defensive backfield. I like the kids he brought inwhatisee wrote:With all that said he was still one of your top recruiters according to the numbersMrBug708 wrote:I thought he was on the retirement train.
