I think Winger posted something years ago that for a program like ours the important thing is not the few or any 4 stars you get. It's getting kids in the top half of the 3 stars vs. the bottom of the 3 star pool.
Are the kids we're getting in this class considered the top half pf the 3 stars?

Breaking down the scholarship offers of current commits:

Washington QB offers from Colorado, Indiana, Oregon, Oregon St (National Rank 420)

Texas OLB offers from Connecticut, SMU

New Orleans,LA RB offers from Colorado, Duke, Kansas, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia

California ATH offers from Boston College, Maryland, Washington St.

New Orleans,LA OLB NO P5 offers

Houston,TX DE NO P5 offers

Washington ILB offers from Air Force, Army, Boise St, Fresno St,

Houston area S offers from Virginia Tech, Houston

Illinois ILB offers from Boise St and Navy

California OC offers only from UNLV

West Texas TE offers from Colorado

Bay Area JuCo DT NO FBS offers

Riverside,CA JuCo DE NO FBS Offers

Doesn't look like we're going after any ASU targets. Not one in-state commit.

Not really. The way to tell is judging the quality of competing offers. Or if you use Scout.com's services their better three star prospects are given a 5.7 rating (out of 6.0 - 5.8 is a four star). If you're using 247/Rivals they rank their prospects overall up to 1000. A three star in about the top 800 or 900 hundred is a top-half three star.

Will take!

Graduate transfer DL Roy Lopez from New Mexico State eligible to play whenever season starts. Played High School at Gilbert Mesquite.

"The 6-foot-2-inch, 310-pound Lopez, who entered the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer, registered 137 tackles and eight sacks in four seasons with the Aggies. Lopez already has experience playing at Arizona Stadium from when New Mexico State outlasted Utah State 26-20 in overtime to win the 2017 Arizona Bowl."

The WR kid from New Orleans is legit. He is as big time as we generally get. Should be a 4 star and still might be. Of course this is also the kid we lose by signing day

Yeah, I got a feeling he's going to flip on us at some point.

We are recruiting Louisiana very well. I think we have like 4 of the top 32 players from that football rich state.

49 I agree 100%.

I feel much much better about this class than I have in a long time. Unfortunately, I don't think any of these guys will have an impact this coming year and Sumlin and the staff need to win NOW to keep their jobs.

Fingers crossed!

You know GC, the past two years has been a lot about RR guys vs KS GUYS. RR had that big class the year before he got canned and he had most of the recruits committed the following years. This past class and this class is really Sumlin’s guys. I just wonder how many guys are upset about reduced roles or position changes. I think Sumlin might get his full contract given the economics and maybe we need to see how this pans out. I think these recruits are bigger, longer and hopefully better than we have had

49,

I don't think there is any doubt that we are not competing with the same player pool as LSU, Ohio State and Alabama but in the big scheme of things out of the 19 players we have committed, at least half of them are pretty high quality gets with the usual average at best mixed in between.

There is no doubt that Sumlin is bringing in much bigger and taller players.

Hopefully we can hold on to them.

They're keeping their jobs after this year even if they go winless. The financial situation isn't tenable to pay out Sumlin and hire somebody else.

Curious Choo if you feel like the talent level in recruiting has been better? Have to wait and see about player development with so many new defensive coaches. Couldn’t be any worse

This class is infinitely better than the two prior. The question is will they be able to sign these guys when it counts? I am confident this defensive coaching staff is infinitely better than the prior one.

With JUCO’s (and all of football) maybe not having a season this year it might mean we get three years from this guy. Sounds like a good strategy recruiting wise

Also competes in track and field (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, long jump).
Had additional offers from Houston, Tulane, and North Texas. Listed weight is 160 lbs at 5'11".
Looks like we're gonna have to get him on the Footballjunkie diet that would have him gaining 50 lbs+ within 2 years

What is the first place he's got to visit on 4th Ave?

Would 4th even work as a recruiting tool? Seems like it's an older crowd (+25) compared to the more college age scene at maingate square - Gentle Ben's, Illegal Pete's, etc.

That's a great question. If he redshirted and didn't play this season, I'd think so under the more relaxed transfer rules. 6-4 295 out of Scottsdale. Too bad he wasted his time in Waco. But, maybe he got to meet Chip and Joanna Gaines.

Yeah, we need to do something radical like winning some games. I think that could help but it seems the coaching staff hasn't figured that out yet.
