QB Aiden Chiles following Jonathan Smith to Michigan State:

Aidan Chiles transfers to Michigan State: No. 1 QB in portal following coach Jonathan Smith to Spartans
Chiles earned snaps behind DJ Uiagalelei last season for the Beavers

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... o-spartans

Former Oregon State quarterback Aidan Chiles will transfer to Michigan State, he announced Thursday. The No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 overall player in the 247Sports transfer rankings will join former coach Jonathan Smith in East Lansing, Michigan.

Chiles threw for 309 yards, rushed for 79 and scored seven total touchdowns while serving as the primary backup to DJ Uiagalelei in 2023. He played in nine of Oregon State's 11 games and was inserted into the lineup with the first team multiple times as Smith looked to get his future starter meaningful game reps.

As a general rule, I hate the transfer portal, but in this case it makes perfect sense and glad to see it happen for him.

Especially with ntOSU heading into obscurity.

https://twitter.com/KongaikaRich/status ... media_tags

I'm still holding out hope that Congress addresses this.......NIL and unlimited transfers are rapidly destroying college football/basketball.

If the kids want to go pro, let them. If they want to stay in college they need to be amateurs in some respects. I would have no issue with all college athletes in the money sports (fball/bball) getting some base stipend paid for by either the NCAA or the school. In other words football players at Arizona would get the same amount as players at Alabama.

It's a business - first, foremost and irrevocably!

Look at the cost of facilities.

Look at the salaries of coaches and administrators.

Look at the TV revenue.

And the players are the most essential and valuable component of all of it.

"Amateur" is an imaginary, and now, utterly obsolete, concept. It now equates to "Non-compete clause"...

The operative concept is now "Unfair restraint of trade"....

P5 conferences pay stipends of $2000-$4000 per year to football players, along with free tuition.

In terms of competing with NIL, such as JDLs $8k per month, don't see how schools can match that. Most schools require academic funding to their athletic departments to keep them afloat, including the UA.

One thing congress could do to deal with that is revoke Title IX. The biggest money loser in the AD is the WBB program. But imagine teams like golf, track and field, lacrosse and so on will be gone.

I'm glad to see the players getting something from all this, but I think more structure is needed and maybe NIL caps and some sort of $ sharing between schools.

I also think the open portal time needs to be changed to after bowl season and the ability to transfer more than once without penalty needs to be revoked.

Maybe Harbaugh wins the Natty, goes to Chargers, and Graham transfers to be closer to home with his boys and try for a Natty at a 2nd school. Legacy cemented! Probably why Kongaika transferred. ;)

Free article.

https://247sports.com/college/arizona/A ... 224509295/

When the season ended, Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch listed wide receiver as one position he would like to add to.

“Always looking at pass rushers always, looking at guys that can score touchdowns,” Fisch said. “Wide receivers are always a position that I always like to look at and then linebackers, continue to build our linebacking core up.

“So, those right now are the three spots that I would say are the highest of the list and then you can never go wrong getting big people in your building. So whether that would be offensive line or defensive line, usually we don’t turn down big.”

Don't blame him.

6th leading receiver for USC with 24 catches with only 1 reception in each of his last 3 games.

66 receptions the prior season for UA.

With Cowing out of eligibility, wonder if he is reaching out to UA coaches?

We definitely need to get him if we can.

My only hesitation is it might make others think they can easily just return if they go elsewhere. This could be mitigated if the current exemption for a second transfer without penalty is only temporary.

Probably the same reason he is looking at the Scum, no situational common sense. Also, playing time? The guy got 23 snaps in the Alamo Bowl as a Sophomore on a line that routinely rotates guys to keep them fresh. What more does he want? Oh that's right, he wants more money, just like they all want. Nothing to do with playing time or relationships. When someone tags a Polynesian NIL firm in their transfer tweet I am pretty sure this was never about relationships or playing time.

Whether its because he hates his position coach or he wants more money I can understand why he might want to transfer.......and its perfectly legal in the insane NIL world we live in. What I can't fathom is why is he even considering the flaming dumpster fire at asu??? He could easily spend the next 2 years playing on really, really bad losing teams. Lets not forget that the NCAA has yet to drop the hammer on the scum for their blatant recruiting violations....and the odds are good that they will. The sanctions, when they occur, will push back the recovery date for asu football even further.

Didn’t Scheer text that it was snaps and relationships which hints at a disagreement with his defensive coaches.
