You know ASSU just brought in Danny White as an offense specialist so us hiring our own devil killer is perfect.

RR should surround himself with our lineage

Wonder if he'll still be here in 5-6 months once there's a new coaching staff

I imagine so. He is an Arizona legacy, and has a slightly better job than video coordinator. Being a position coach is an upgrade.

This man was a DC in the NFL. He will be around.

How long have we all been wondering why Chuck isn't on this staff? I wonder if this was Heeke's move based on feedback from boosters. Bring in some "Arizona Men" who might have a bit of loyalty. Either way, the move provides a little hope in what has been a dismal off-season and may provide a little consistency if the current coaching staff is dumped.

BTW..I don't care if you don't go to games; more beer, coeds, and fun for me. Once I chose to make the games about having fun, creating memories with friends and family..the losses are little easier to swallow. It is about the journey and not the destination, right?

No. It's about winning in football. I believe this was a RR move of desperation. He knows the clock is ticking and knew that this hire would be favorable among the Arizona faithful. He will be giving his two cents to RR and Yates about the defense and he will probably coach up some kids. It's a solid hire and I can only hope that the next coach keeps him around.

Here are the players I have found missing from the roster (besides Devaughn Cooper). Remember there is a limit to the number of players on the roster for camp, so some of these players could return to the roster when school starts.

97 Alex Merrywell redshirt Freshman kicker
89 Q'uole Wilson redshirt Sophomore receiver
88 Jordan Bogardus redshirt Freshman receiver
83 Joshua Mason redshirt Freshman receiver
62 Days Paige Birdline Freshman defensive lineman (preferred walk-on for this year who did not make roster)

Maybe some insiders or moneymakers from the program can come on here and tell us all what's up with these guys?

Everyone except Birdline are walk-ons who were taken off the roster to get to the required camp numbers. The same thing happened last year and the players were added back to the roster when school started. Even when an injury occurs in camp it is common to see when of these guys pop back up on the roster.

Birdline was expected to come in as a preferred walk-on, but is not at school. I don't know why and don't care since I just worry about the guys who end up playing at Arizona.

Looking at some of ANG's player updates we must have the smallest linebackers in FBS football.

Someone posted earlier that the Cats LB corp is the 10th most experienced in the PAC. With Miller out, at least for a bit then they have to be last. And Miller being glass probably won't make that much impact anyway.

For some odd reason I don't have any worry about the LB position.

The above article paints a bit of a contrast on size of lb's. Stating freshman all coming in with "solid size".

I updated a lot of players to the countdown. Most are walk-on Freshman and not a big concern until they prove themselves. One interesting addition, Quincy Wimbish, redshirt Freshman running back transfer from Memphis. He is probably not eligible this year, but he had over 3000 yards in his high school career and is better than his name implies.

Winning is important, but if it is only thing, you're in for a lot of disappointment as a Arizona Football Fan. I have to justify the amount of time I spend obsessing about Arizona Football. If winning was what it was all about, I would have to admit it is a HUGE waste of time. I prefer my approach. Different strokes for different folks. ;)

I did notice that during recruiting. Seemed like they were bringing in better size at LB & safety positions.

WR piece following departure of Cooper. Definitely, think there is talent and solid possibilities to step up, but will they?

To me the TE's are far more important this year. RR and staff need too use those guys to pick up the third and 7 first downs. Easy low risk throws to big targets

I sure as hell hope so but yeah as big a question for sure. Dawkins essentially a sr. with red shirt, so got to step up! Thinking as was stated earlier, TE's can play a much bigger role!
Wood seems like he could be a solid possession guy, if not down the seam. Huge target for those less than accurate throws.

Perfect post for the unpopular opinions thread. I have to think that some of our coaches had the smarts. Did they have the fanbase, the facilities, the built-in recruiting pipeline, the brand name, the location/setting, the supportive AD, etc. that is required to have a successful D1 Football Program. Nope. Takes more than smarts to have a consistently winning program, for Arizona it will take a perfect alignment of the stars.

I can't wait for the season to start. The expectations are about as low as I've ever experienced. Hopefully that sets us up for a nice upside surprise. I don't believe in the "root for them to fail so we can make a change" mentality. If it is RR's time to go, it is his time to go. If he makes good, however unlikely, I am happy for him and hope for more to come. Beardown cabrones.

What's unpopular to me is the consistent mediocrity that is celebrated and tolerated. That's partly a bi-product of a basketball mentality. Who cares what the football team does as long as I can drink Bud-Light and get sideways. The fan base and the media should want more than that. Smarts for a coach goes farther than the field. A smart coach can direct the direction and decisions of an AD. There are many programs that have location problems yet are successful. That's not an excuse. Arizona needs to put football first with accountability a close second.

Starting to think that D Tate could be an X factor this year. If Dawkins struggles with seeing field and passing game, that this guy might take the opportunity and run.

And injured by early November. If he couldn't stay off the DL in baseball, not sure how he can survive in football. There was a reason Kirk Gibson picked baseball over football.

Maybe you have different motions and movements and use different muscles in football compared to baseball?
