Bama's playcalling is abysmal. I know they win with defense but it's all screens and runs. I recall more deep throws with AJ McCarron. Imagine how good they would be with Tate.

Maybe this is part of negotiations to get sumlin lower. Keep leaking. Flying around. Never know.

Hard to imagine, they'd spend $3 million on a buyout for this guy.
Definitely, has some decent success where's he's been.
Runs the "Nascar Spread" Lol!! Back to the line within 8 seconds.

Fact: Miles had better recruiting classes (EVERY Year) in the SEC than the younger Sumlin. So much for youth.

Fact: Sumlins average National Defensive Ranking at A&M (with much better recruiting than RRod) was 82nd nationally.......RRod Clone
Fact: At LSU, where you fall out of bed and land a 5 star local kid. Good luck with that at Arizona.

Fact: Exactly what you wrote

Let's agree to pass on both shall we?

He can coach though. Hopefully he wouldn't be dumb enough to hire an entire south or East coast staff like some other worthless numbnut whl coached here.

You can make the same analogy regarding A&M and 5 star recruits.

If you want to not hire a retread, thats your opinion, just don't sit there and post that Miles is a RRod clone when ALL of the
objective data and FACTS say that Sumlin is the clone.

Why would Neal Brown interview be leaked when others are not? It just feels like the AD is trying to show interest and driving down the price of other coaches.

Just watched the Neal Brown presser after Troy beat LSU. Took all of 7 seconds to realize this guy has 1,000X the personality RR has. The number of times I face-palmed while listening to RR try to put together a coherent sentence...

Admittedly I had never heard of this guy before today. But if Brown can add west coast recruiters, that combo could work. The guy has the look of a coach in-control.

Warming to the idea of hiring a lesser "name" coach if the pieces fit together.

Keep Yates for continuity.

Troy beat LSU!!!!

Did GCC play any Div I teams in those days?

I was a sophomore when Lindsey was hired. Quite an interesting mess with Snowden when I was a freshman, Then Lute came on when I was a junior.

Brown reportedly has a $3 million buyout. I'm not sure Heeke would survive if he paid that for him regardless how good of a coach he ends up being.

Had no idea who the hell Beau Baldwin was before all this, but I actually did google Neal Brown to research him a bit after Troy upset LSU on LSU's homecoming night. I was thoroughly convinced at that point that there was no way RR would survive another season, and was curious to see of Brown might be someone Heeke might target. Of course about a week later, Tate burst onto the scene and made me forget all about a potential coaching search for a while. Forgot all about him until now again.

No matter who it is, don't think we can judge the coach on next year. With that schedule and returning unit, any competent coach can win 9 games.

Um, huh? So many problems with this.

First: new coach, new system can be quite disruptive in the win column despite how competent he is. Especially with RR's funky lightweight personnel.
Second: even with bunnies for the OOC, 6 wins in the PAC is never a gimmie. BYU/Houston are not bunnies, by the way.
Third: our 'returning unit' is weak as shit outside of Tate - and the new coach might not even be able to leverage him the way RR did.
Fourth: you are saying we shouldn't judge the new coach and then set a mendoza line of 9 wins. That is nothing short of insanity.

I don't think there should be any imaginary cutoff for wins. That would have been true for me with RR and should be true for any new coach.

That said, other people were pushing a cutoff number for RR if he returned. I also don't get why anyone would think fewer than 8 wins would be acceptable for a new coach but would have been unacceptable for RR.

It either has to go one way or another. Either you evaluate as it happens or you pre-set a standard.

I am curious of how much truth there is to the Neal Brown stuff, or if he was just a "top candidate" because the DHR firm thought so and Heeke was doing his due diligence.

I've had those same thoughts. If you're going to spend the money on a search firm, it makes sense that you're going to vet the options that are out there. Ray Anderson got killed, and deservedly so......for having tunnel vision and not even interviewing other candidates. Though this waiting game is killing me, I'm glad that we are looking at multiple options.

Now hurry up and hire Sumlin already now would you Heeke.

He's coming in low. Forcing the other candidates to go and stay low. Which means Arizona is offering crap. No staff money.

Which makes the idea of paying $3 million buyout ludicrous. That would pay for both an offensive and defensive coordinator.

Anyone with an idea on buyouts for some of the coordinators mentioned, such as Baldwin? If any?

I'd take Baldwin well ahead of Neal Brown. Don't want any part of the "Nascar Spread". Defense needs some rest! Recruiting questions with little to no exposure to west coast, save lubbock briefly.

Fuck it. Bring on Neal Brown.

Total defense: 24) Troy 4.78 yards per play / 336.6 yards per game
Total Offense: 51) Troy 6.17 yards per play / 413.5 yards per game
