Berk made a mistake at Linebacker. Scooby Wright won't be a starter. He needs a couple more years to develop before he'll make an impact for this team.

Also, I hope Carter was able to avoid up chucking on the scholarship paperwork.

If I remember correctly there is some stupid rule where if a player is a walk on you can not offer them a scholarship until they are done with their second year of school. I would assume Matthews get his scholie in fall camp

Which really bugs RR. If a freshman or sophomore walk on is given a scholie then it counts against the original 25 during the time the walk on enrolled.
Unlike basketball where scholies are given all the time to walk ons if someone leaves the team.

This has been a long time coming - RichRod wanted to give him a scholie last year but couldn't because of the way the rules were set up. Matthews was one of the guys that RR used as an example when he talked about how the rule needed to be changed. Link -

Bleacher Report ranks the 25 fastest players in CFB.
6. Tyrell Johnson (Arizona)
When Tyrell Johnson was in high school in Cape Coral, Florida, he broke county track records held by former Clemson star Sammie Watkins.
"We were always competing, always competitive," Johnson told
FOX Sports Arizona's Anthony Gimino earlier this year. "It was something we would always fight for, always trying to be better than the other... It was a big deal when I broke his record. Everyone was like, 'Oh man, you're fast.'"
Johnson matched his record-breaking time in the 100 meters earlier this year—10.4 seconds—at the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships. Now this track star is setting his sights on an even bigger year for the Wildcats in football as a return specialist and a slot receiver.

I don't follow any of the players on twitter, because I think it is creepy for a middle aged man to follow college kids he is not related to. That said, I love these tweets. I love knowing who is setting the standards in the weight room and who is making the most of the off season. Glad someone else passes these tweets along.

The fact that the kids are excited about the offseason work they are putting in is awesome and bodes well for the upcoming season.

Athlon Sports picks wild card players for each P12 team. Here is who they picked to breakout for Arizona:
Offense: David Richards, Wide Receiver
The Arizona wide receiving corps is perhaps the deepest in the Pac-12, if not all of college football, returning 2014 standout Cayleb Jones, dynamic slot playmaker Samajie Grant, Trey Griffey and, returning from injury, Nate Phillips.
The difference between senior Richards and the rest of that corps is that, while the others were all recruited specifically for head coach Rich Rodriguez’s offense, Richards initially signed on to be part of the air-raid Arizona was running with Mike Stoops at the helm.
At 6-foot-4 and nearly 220 pounds, Richards also is much different physically from the speedy Grant and Phillips. As more of a prototypical possession receiver, Richards’ further integration into the offense should give sophomore quarterback Anu Solomon a reliable weapon to set up the rest of the receiving corps for home-run plays.
Defense: Derrick Turituri, Linebacker
The spotlight is fixed firmly on another Arizona linebacker, reigning Bronko Nagurski Award winner Scooby Wright. However, Turituri quietly enjoyed a breakout 2014 season.
After playing sparingly in the opener and missing Week 2, Turituri became a factor for Arizona’s much-improved defense during Pac-12 play. He had six tackles in the come-from-behind win over Cal, a personal-best he matched in defeats of Washington and Utah, and recorded a key sack in the upset of Oregon.
Wright’s emergence as a national star guarantees opposing offensive coordinators will key in on the dynamic ball hawk. Turituri’s continued progression is vital to keep teams from successfully double-teaming Wright.
I am impressed with Athlon because those are better choices than I expected. I thought they'd pick Samajie Grant and Will Parks. Two players who I think have already proven themselves, but are still unknown on the national scene.
I think Richards and Turituri are great choices and 2 players that are really unknown unless you follow Arizona closely.
Other players I would consider:
Offense - Freddie Tagaloa, Trey Griffey, Tyrell Johnson and the real longshot Josh Kern/Trevor Wood (whoever wins the starting tight end)
Defense - Cam Denson, Jake Matthews and Paul Magloire (hasn't even played his first game, but he's been killing it in the weight room).

Starting DL in 2014:
Reggie Gilbert 6'4 262
Parker Zellers 6'1 247
Dan Pettinato 6'5 277
Average: 6'3 262
Starting DL in 2015 (according to that depth chart):
Reggie Gilbert 6'4 262
Marcus Griffin 6'0 302
Jeff Worthy 6'2 287
Average: 6'2 284lbs
An inch shorter, but 22lbs heavier, mostly because of the replacement of Zellers with Griffin.

Yeah, Zellers might not be the biggest strongest guy on the roster but he's earned the chance to hold on to the starting job. Griffin will get in the mix but Zellers played his a** off last year against some good competition.

Zellers Dad came on the other site and said his son has put on some weight so 247 isn't accurate. If memory serves he's on the other side of 260lbs now.

AZ Desert Storm's Encinas's offensive depth chart prediction. His article has a breakdown of players and positions.
Quarterbacks
Anu Solomon
Jerrard Randall
Brandon Dawkins
Running Backs
Nick Wilson
Jared Baker
Jon Haden
Orlando Bradford
Receivers (Outside)
Cayleb Jones
Trey Griffey/David Richards
Receivers (Slot)
Samajie Grant/Tony Ellison
Nate Phillips/Tyrell Johnson
Tight Ends
Trevor Wood/Matt Morin
Josh Kern/Darrel Cloy Jr.
Offensive Line
LT - Freddie Tagaloa/Layth Friekh
LG - Jacob Alsadek/Zach Hemmila
C - Carter Wood/David Catalano
RG - Cayman Bundage/Levi Walton
RT - Lene Maiava/Jordan Poland/Kaige Lawrence
Everything make sense to me except I'm not sure why the tight ends are broken into 2 groups. I think the order will be Kern/Wood/Morin and Cloy (likely redshirt).
With this depth chart the only position that has me worried is center.

Jason Scheer at WSR posted a projected depth chart.
Offense
WR Cayleb Jones, Trey Griffey
Slot Samajie Grant, Tyrell Johnson or Shun Brown (Johnson is currently injured)
TE Josh Kern, Trevor Wood
LT Freddie Tagaloa, T.D. Gross
Left Guard Zach Hemmila, T.D. Gross
Center Cayman Bundage, Zach Hemmila
Right Guard Jacob Alsadek
Right Tackle Lene Maiava, Layth Friekh
Slot Nate Phillips or Shun Brown or Tony Ellison
WR David Richards, Tony Ellison
Running back Nick Wilson, Jared Baker
Quarterback Anu Solomon, Jerrard Randall
Defense
Defensive end Reggie Gilbert, Anthony Fotu
Nose Parker Zellers, Jeff Worthy
Tackle Luca Bruno, Calvin Allen
SLB Cody Ippolito or Derrick Turituri
MLB Scooby Wright, Cody Ippolito
WLB Jake Matthews, DeAndre Miller
Spur Will Parks, Anthony Lopez
Bandit Tellas Jones, Paul Magloire
Left Corner Cam Denson, Sam Morrison
Right Corner Davonte Neal, Jarvis McCall or Devin Holiday
Free Safety Jamar Allah, Devon Brewer or Demetrius Flannigan
Looks very accurate to me. I would list the second slot as Nate Phillips, Tony Ellison, Shun Brown, but if Brown is good enough to jump Phillips he will have a spectacular Freshman year.
Besides Brown, the other true Freshman on the list are Sam Morrison and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles.
Also, I think running back should be listed as 3 deep. I think Zach Green and Orlando Bradford will be battling for that spot. Tie goes to Green and Bradford redshirts.
If Tyrell Johnson is not back to full speed this week it will be interesting to see who is returning kickoffs. Grant and Baker have both done it in the past, but we also could see one of the young guys take the spot.

Good Arizona info on the
Podcast of Champions this week. They get short reports from Scout reporters for each team and Jason Scheer updates for the Wildcats. The best way to see what is going on around the league.
Scheer said Cam Denson has been inconsistent at camp and DaVonte' Neal is probably the only one who has a corner spot locked up. Right now, Freshman Sammy Morrison is taking some first team corner reps and it may be to just try to motivate Denson.

That is pretty surprising about Neal. When Richard Morrison switched to defense after failing at QB and slot receiver I don't think he ever saw the field.
