Tagaloa is a 6-8, 316, redshirt Junior offensive lineman from Cal and Salesian HS, Richmond, CA. He redshirted last year after transferring from Cal and is expected to start at left tackle this year.
The first Cal O-lineman to play as a true Freshman since 2009, Tagaloa was a reserve tackle and a special teams player in Tedford's final year. The next year, Tagaloa was voted a team captain and started the the first 7 games at left tackle before losing his starting spot and being moved to guard. Unhappy with the position move and not satisfied with the direction of coaching, Tagaloa decided to transfer to Arizona to be reunited with Coach Michalczik who had coached him at Cal his Freshman year.
Tagaloa brings size, strength, experience and leadership to the O-line. It will take all of that to fill Micky Baucus' shoes who set an Arizona record by starting 52 straight games at left tackle.
And as Coach Rod likes to say about Tagaloa, “Freddie’s obviously the first guy you want off the bus.”
72 is also the number of offensive plays Cal ran against Arizona last year. Arizona countered with 106 offensive plays and needed every one to stage the biggest comeback in school history.
