Playing in the first bowl of the season, noon Arizona time December 19 vs. the lobos in a home game for them. They run a run first option offense. 7-5 this year. Losses to Asu, San Jose state, Tulsa, Nevada and Colorado state.

Sigh. Only 13 days until the game. Same day as home basketball game against UNLV.

We're coming in probably completely unmotivated and not completely healthy for this game. This is the biggest game unm has played since they beat us at home 7 years ago. Probably will be a packed raucous home crowd.

My thoughts exactly. I would have taken literally any other bowl.

Bleh oh well. It's another game. Wish we had more time for practice and getting healthy.

Preliminary forecast for kickoff is sunny and about 40 degrees.

The team just can't catch any breaks this year.

Interesting that it's the same day as a home basketball game again. Hope the 19th will be just as fun as 12-15-12 was.

New Mexico is 9th in the nation in rush yard per game at 247. Arizona is 89th in rush defense giving up 189 yards a game. But hey we're 18th in rush offense and they are just as bad as us at stopping the run.

It different year, different time. Playing against Bob Davie UNM teams should be entertaining game, Since you said that our team will be unmotivated because of the whole RR/SC Crap. RR will get them play at some point. Unless the senior class want to remember their last game by throwing it away over a broken promise by RR.

They had some nice wins coming sown the stretch against Utah State, Boise State, and Air Force.

Well if Scooby plays and they run the triple option, Scooby could have 20 tackles

That if Scooby 100% to play. I hope Nick Wilson is 100% as well. New Mexico play the pistol offense if not mistaken.

Nevada runs the pistol, NM the bone. Wilson Won't be anywhere close to 100% and some think he will miss the game

Yes, the will slow the game to a crawl, limit possessions and shorten the game giving them a chance at the end.

They gave a stout run defensive team like ASSU fits. If they control the clock by getting first down after first down they may have the ball for 40+ minutes.

We must get out fast, like 14-0 fast

By the time this game starts it will have been 28 days from the last game. We should be more healthy than we have been in awhile because even the guys that were healthy weren't healthy. At 6-6 I don't care what bowl we go too because at that point it's just building for next season. These extra practices are essentially another spring for the younger kids and it will help immensely.

First practice is tomorrow. Lobos run a Pistol option/multiple offense and a 3-4 defense.

At least having NM in the game will draw actual fans to the game, unlike the last time we played there to a depressing cold empty stadium. That will help with the atmosphere. And this game is a B rivalry game, way down the chain from an ASU game, but still one nonetheless given the history between the schools, so RichRod can at least get some partial credit for winning a rivalry game. That Stoops loss to them in 2011 was BAD.

Off the top of anyone's head, who might we have back for this bowl game that we didn't have playing in the last game of the season, as well as:
Scooby (said playing)
Anu (? will he play)
Nick Wilson (? will he play)

Other starters we've lost during the year?

After the Insight.com Bowl both schools agreed to retire it.

Gildan New Mexico Bowl: Arizona vs. New Mexico
(Dec. 19, 2 p.m., ESPN)
Rich Rodriguez is staying with the Wildcats, who hope to get healthier before a "road" game against a surprise New Mexico team. Linebacker Scooby Wright plays and Arizona wins a thriller. Arizona 31, New Mexico 30
I still don't think Scooby plays.

So much for the rushing offense. UA was 4th(?) before Wilson was hurt, and now is at 18th. Anu won't (and shouldn't) run, and defenses have figured out Randall. So if Anu gets 3 or so 3 and outs to start the game, look for Dawkins.

No way the Cats can stop UNM even with Scooby, so really need to score right away but use up some clock to give the D a rest.

I don't doubt that is probably true, but this is depressing. This is UNM we are talking about and Bob Davie is their coach.

haha, wow -- that is pretty low. what a difference in payout having an extra win on our resume' would have made. cal's also getting screwed payout wise, relative to what asu and udub are getting with worse overall records and crummier ooc wins. oh well, equal distribution model, so whatever.

I'm going to stay one night. Just trying to figure out which night. I could leave early Saturday morning (3 am-ish... eek) or Friday. Also trying to figure out where to stay. Found a few places and I have some spots I wanna hit.

Yes. Since I am in PHX during that week a college buddy and I might as well take the trip, we agreed. He'll bring some of his other friends. They all want to see ABQ, especially some of the anthropology and native American museums on the UNM campus. On the way back we'll probably hit the buffet at the Route 66 Casino off I-40. I'm going to use my hotel points to book us into the Hyatt Regency downtown. As for the game, I am expecting to be vastly outnumbered by a bunch of rude Lobo fans. And to freeze.

I went to the 2008 NM game and the Lobo fans were actually a fun bunch. I'm a hiker, so I've got some good cold weather gear to bring out (make sure you've got something to keep your head warm or else the rest of you will freeze no matter what.) As for food... sure, I suppose you could hit a casino buffet, but why? Go hit up Laguna Burger out there for a killer green chile cheeseburger, one of the best you'll find anywhere. Stop by the Frontier downtown. There's so much good food out that way and hitting a casino buffet would be a waste.

I highly recommend the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology on the UNM campus. Also, on the west side the Petroglyph park is outstanding if anyone in your group is into prehistoric rock art. Kelly's Brew Pub east of campus has some of my all time favorite brews as well.
