57 Cody Ippolito

Ippolito is a 6'2", 257, redshirt Senior linebacker from Paradise Valley, AZ. Unfortunately, Ippolito has had to take every other year off for knee injuries during his Arizona career. He played as a true Freshman in 7 games as a reserve linebacker and on special teams famously finishing the season by being
sent home from the New Mexico Bowl for fighting with a teammate. He missed the 2013 season recovering from knee surgery. In 2014, he played in every game and started 6 while making 52 tackles with 6.5 for a loss and 2 sacks. He was set to be a starter last year, but an ACL injury forced him to miss the year.
Ippolito, if healthy, should be in the competition for one of the starting linebacker spots. But it is going to be quite the competition for playing time among the linebackers. I think only DeAndre' Miller is the only one with a spot locked up going into camp.
57 yards is the longest field goal in Arizona history. The record is shared by Jon Prasuhn (Pacific 1995), Lee Pistor (Iowa 1977), and Max Zendejas (AssU 1985).
57 is also the Arizona record for the most PAT without a miss held by Casey Skowron in 2014.
No. 57
Highest Average Per Punt, Season
(Min. 36 punts) 47.5 yards, Danny Baugher, 2005 (37 for 1,758 yards)
(Min. 40 punts) 46.0, Kyle Dugandzic, 2011 (40 for 1,840)
(Min. 50 punts) 45.3, Drew Riggleman, 2015 (52 for 2,357)
(Min. 75 punts) 46.1, Drew Riggleman, 2014 (76 for 3,501)

Brad Allis at WSR with an article on Ippolito.
He admitted that he was probably only 80 percent healthy during spring ball, but expects to be full-go for the season.
“By the season I will definitely be 100 percent, I can tell you that much,” Ippolito said.
. . .
Like the rest of the team he is adjusting to the new defensive coaches and a new scheme, bit so far things are going well. New linebackers coach/defensive coordinator Marcel Yates is very different from prior coach Jeff Casteel and there is great communication, both football and non-football in nature, between the players and coaches.
“In the linebacker room we talk about everything,” said Ippolito.

Cody, if you see this, love you dude. You have been a great warrior and have served this team and university very well. If you hang up those cleats, you can walk away with a football career you can hang your hat on.
For selfish reasons, I hope you come back, but I hope you do so with a full and clear-headed assessment of the risks and benefits of such a decision. It just might not be worth it.
Thanks and bear down buddy.

Come on Chief. Quit being a pansy and being cryptic. He doesn't want him to play because his knees are shot and he wants him to walk in the future or he doesn't th hint he is talented enough anymore yo vontribute.
I am fine either way but if you have info or an opinion give it.

Cryptic? Can you read? Cryptic like me telling you Arizona was gonna be screwed because Rich Rod is a fraud and you argued over and over stating that I was a jerk and overstepping my bounds. Rich Rod doesn't want the kid to play. So he is looking elsewhere. What more do you need to know?

The freaking reason Mr know it all. No shit he doesn't want him to play. Stevie Wonder can see that but why? Is he concerned about his ability to function normally when he is old or RR doesn't think he can contribute anymore and wants the roster spot for a better player?
Same question really and I asked above. CAN YOU READ? To many hits to your head when you played?
If you don't know, which is fine, just say it. Take a guess if you need to as well. Just want to know your thoughts since you were mostly right on RR and his recruiting

He doesn't want him taking up a roster spot because he thinks there will be better players behind him.

Thank you. Kind of what I suspected. Now you have to wonder if he can replace him on the roster with a kid as talented (doesn't seem hard) and a kid who seems to have been all in (tougher)

so...Ippolito is being shown the door.......because why again? We're so talent-stacked at his position we can't use him? I'm confused here.

Because the odds of him staying healthy a whole season, or even the better part of one, are not great. And when he was healthy he was not the fastest guy at a position where you need speed. I can't imagine this latest injury is going to improve that.
I appreciate Cody and how he gutted through so many injuries, but I was pretty surprised he wants a 6th year. Has no one discussed what his quality of life will be like in 10-20 years if he gets injured again?

I'm more than confident he's had discussions with his doctors regarding potential further injury and the consequences from said potential injury.
My question still remains, however, are we so talent-stacked we couldn't use him? Because I didn't exactly see a cornucopia of talented players on the D at his position this year. Maybe I missed something though and we're overloaded with better talent at the position?

I heard that Cody has reached out to UCLA, ASSU and Utah to see if they have interest in him. Looks like he wants to play in the PAC 12 south

Why would he need to regret on those issue.

4 top linebackers from last season are all gone. Only one returning with any real experience.
Of course RichRod may be looking for that huge payout when he gets fired.

And the LB we have on the roster and incoming LB in recruiting trail wont do better than 5 LB we have lost.
It would be stupid for RR to tank the 2017 season in order to receive that payout if that what your really hoping for.

Not me, but RichRod may be wanting to go back to the broadcast booth, and nice to have 8 mil in the bank to go with it.

Watch Ippolito start every game for Utah next year and not have a sniff of any injury and be an all pac 12 player.

Nice try Harvey but I'm not one that making excuses on saying RR need to be fired and be put back on broadcast booth were he belong. I choose to believe RR will do better not chasing his paycheck. So you can take you wrote, Crunch that up like ball and kick it as high as you can. I'm not like you and the rest that has already call it like it is.

that sure was nice of RR to grant cody an unconditional release. is it likely that he'll receive another year of eligibility from the ncaa?
