Edited from 50 Days now that Barton has been assigned 11.



Barton is a 6'0", 237, redshirt Senior, grad transfer linebacker from Cal and Richmond, CA. Eligible to play immediately, Barton is coming to Arizona for playing time and should be in the competition for a starting role. His big year at Cal was 2014 when he had 80 tackles in 12 games with 6 starts as the Mike LB and 4 starts at Will. He also had 7.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks that year and was honorable mention All-PAC 12. In 2015 he saw a drop in production and playing time and lost his starting job. Last year he played in 9 games, struggled with injuries and only had 25 tackles playing at Will LB.

So the big question is will we get the 2014 or 2015 version of Barton? 2014 Barton will have an immediate impact as a starter and push to be one of the top players on the defense. 2015 Barton will give us more linebacker depth.

I can see him starting right away. I think he can make a huge impact and fits nicely in the new 4-2-5 hybrid swing door defense.
