Johnson is a 6'0", 187, Freshman quarterback from Boulder Creek HS, Anthem, AZ. He is a walk-on without an official photo and nothing in his biography except the basic stats, so you can expect a likely redshirt and use on the scout team. That said, I did find some intriguing information on Johnson from Images Arizona.

His dad is Eric Johnson who was a 2 year starting lineman for the Wildcats and played on the Fiesta Bowl winning team. You should not take any of this write up at face value since it is parents and a local paper talking up Johnson, but here are some of the excerpts:
Not only is Gunther Johnson throwing up long bombs for Boulder Creek High School, the junior quarterback is also showing he’s the full package. The budding star has got the zip on deep outs, the touch on short throw-and-go plays. He’s reading defenses well, making quick decisions from the new spread offense and, when the primary option isn’t open, checking off to the secondary.

In addition to zinging passes all over the field, Johnson is proving to be almost as big of a threat with his feet as he is with his arm. When no one is open or he’s getting blitzed, he has been able to scramble away from rushers for big gains. He is also becoming quite slick at fake handoffs, keeping the ball himself for long gains on bootlegs.
. . .
“I think he’s been doing great,” he (Johnson's Dad) said of Gunther. “He’s done everything we expected him to do and then some. He works harder than anyone, puts in more blood and sweat than any kid I know. It’s a joy to watch him. He’s got a pretty wide-open game. He can make all the throws and extend plays with his feet. He’s extremely intelligent and has a 4.5 GPA, which helps. He has no problem watching film and picking up tendencies.”
Last year he threw for 2308 yards, completed 59% of his passes, for 19 TDs (10 Int) and scored another 5 TDs rushing while averaging 30 yards a game. Most of those numbers are down from his Junior year when he completed 68% of his passes, threw 28 TDs (6 Int) and ran for 8 TDs while averaging 66 yards per game.

All in all, he looks like a quality walk-on QB. Here are his Hudl videos.

16 is the Arizona record for consecutive games with 100 yards rushing set by Tucson good Ka'Deem Carey.

With a 4.5 GPA it might be worth it to give him a scholie to help the team's APR. He'll see the field as much as Rhett will.

Great stats and highlights. Wondering who else offered him. He sure looks like a player to my know-nothing eye.

Friend of dad's, who lives near Tony Bouie in Anthem now and coaches linemen at Glendale CC.

He couldn't be more proud of his son, who IMHO will pleasantly surprise with his hustle and field intelligence. Legacy recruit if you wish, but one you never pass on, no matter what situation you're coaching in.

That's a personal endorsement, chief. Surely you've read them before.
