7 Kahi Neves

Neves is a 6'4", 238, Freshman linebacker from Timpview HS, Provo, UT. He originally committed to Utah as a dual threat QB, but decided his best chance at a success in college football was as a linebacker and switched to Arizona who had recruited him for that position. He was solely a QB his Senior year, but played linebacker as a Junior in a high school career that saw Neves go to 6 different schools in 4 years. The Salt Lake Tribune had a story on Neves' transfers and it looked like they were a combination of family moves and a chance to start at QB so it is funny that he ended up wanting to be a linebacker in college. It is also pretty impressive that Neves was able to attend multiple schools and still stay on track to graduate early and become an early enrollee.
If you want to see his QB stats they are at Max Preps, but I'll focus on his junior year as a linebacker. As a Junior he had 65 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery and again he played solely as a QB his Senior year.
Neves has been getting good reviews in that spring and at camp. He has the size we need at linebacker, but we will have to wait and see if he makes the depth chart or is looked at for a red shirt year.
7 was the number of pass break-ups Will Parks had last year to lead the team.
