26 Anthony Pandy

Pandy was first covered on day 59 before he was given jersey 26.

Pandy is a 6-0, 225, Freshman linebacker from Narbonne HS, Harbor City, CA. As a senior he had 125 tackles (22 for a loss), 11 sacks, 2 interceptions, 10 pass break-ups, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. He was consistently good in his high school career making 327 tackles in 3 years. Pandy's stats point to a well rounded player who will be able to play both the run and pass. We need help right away on defense and Pandy certainly could be one of the players who sees the field this year.

59 is Arizona's record for the most points scored in a conference game set against Wash St in 2014. They got their revenge last year.

Stoked to see what Pandy and Schooler bring to the defense this year!! Pandy was DE for two years and then killed it at LB, maintaining pass rush, while excelling at new olb position.

Can a true freshman pick up the defensive schemes at LB?

Yeah, their ability to pick up defense is big unknown. Hopefully, they can make impact on special teams and gain reps as year unfolds. Like what I've read about Pandy and Schooler!

It depends on what scheme it is. How hard the scheme is as far as gap responsibilities and coverages. Also, if you were well coached and/or played in a similar scheme in HS. Physical and mental quickness helps. Sometimes speed and quickness can help overcome missing an assignment or coverage. I think that you are in a very bad position if you have to start a LB. If an LB that's been on team and learned the scheme for 1-3 years is getting beat out by a true freshman....you have some personnel deficiencies.

Bump now that Pandy is #26. One of many Freshman linebackers getting good press this last week.
