Lane is a 6-1, 245, Freshman QB from Macon County HS, Montezuma, GA. He was the middle Georgia POY while leading his team to a state championship. He threw an incredible 56 TDs with 2 interceptions while setting the state record for TD throws in a year. Adam Kramer, Bleacher Report, made Lane a national story as one of the top players without a D1 offer.
The "red rifle" will likely redshirt this season with Dawkins and 2 Tates in front of him on the depth chart. It should also take him a year to learn the system and get in Arizona condition for running this offense. I just hope the first time he takes the field we are wearing the all reds.As a senior this fall, Lane threw for 56 touchdowns, completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 3,740 yards. Even more incredibly, of his 319 pass attempts, only two were intercepted, none during the regular season. Not one. And his teammates and coaches are quick to note that both postseason interceptions were not his fault.
No player in the storied history of Georgia high school football has thrown for more touchdowns in a season. Not Deshaun Watson of Clemson, who topped out at 50 in 2012 at Gainesville High School. Not Hutson Mason of Lassiter High in Marietta, who set the mark with 54 in 2009 before playing at the University of Georgia.
11 is the Arizona record for TD receptions in a season held by Austin Hill 2012, Juron Criner 2011 and 2010, Mike Thomas 2007, and Theopolis Bell 1974.
