Irving is a 6-3, 337(+20 from signing day), Freshman defensive lineman from Calabasas High School, Chatsworth, CA. As a Senior he had 19 tackles, 1 for a loss, 1 sack, and 1 interception. Here's a couple key lines from Brandon Combs' AZ Desert Swarm signing day article on Irving:
Irving is an early enrollee who already has a spring under his belt as a Wildcat. He is another very large body for the D-line which has multiple large bodies to work with as we transition to a 4 man front. My Thoughts: Irving is a load to deal with at 330 pounds and has big-time power. One thing he’ll have to work on once he gets on campus is his pad level. He has a tendency to go at the offensive line rather high. Once he is able to lower his pad level, he is going to cause all sorts of problems. One thing working in his favor is he is enrolling early and will have a full spring practice schedule under his belt come fall camp.
Irving’s thoughts on becoming a Wildcat: “I am so excited to be a future Wildcat, because of the opportunity they are giving me, the connections I can make with the fans and the diverse people I meet at the school. I can’t wait to be a Wildcat!”
1996 Jeremy McDaniel set the Arizona record for pass receptions and yards in a game when we caught 14 balls for 283 yards at Cal. How impressive is his yardage? The next player, Cayleb Jones 2014, is at 186 yards. 97 yards short of McDaniel's record.
Note - I separated this from the Memorial Day post just for clarity in future updates.
