Coach Sumlin is a 3 time National Coach of the Year finalist and the 32nd head football coach for the University of Arizona, the states original and premier university. In his 10 seasons as a head coach at Houston (2008-2011) and Texas A&M (2012-2117) he was 51-26 with 9 bowl game appearances and 4-3 in bowl games he has coached. A former linebacker at Purdue (1983-1986), Coach Sumlin has been known for his offenses. During the past 10 years every team has averaged more than 400 yards/game and half the teams have scored more than 500 points in their seasons. Houston's 2011 team went 12-1 and scored 690 points (Arizona scored 537 last year). He has always coached on the offensive side of the ball, primarily receivers (he'll coach tight ends for us), and Coach Sumlin was an OC at Texas A&M and Oklahoma before getting his first head coaching job. This will be his second stop in the PAC after being a grad assistant at Washing State 1989 - 1990.
605 yards was the total offense against ucla last year for the season high.
