Lane is a 6-1, 222, redshirt Freshman quarterback from Macon County HS, Montezuma, GA. He threw an incredible 56 TDs with 2 interceptions while setting the state record for TD throws in a year as a HS Senior. Adam Kramer, Bleacher Report, made Lane a national story as one of the top players without a D1 offer.
Lane has lost 20+ pounds since arriving on campus last year and could still be in the race to be Tate's back-up. It is hard to tell with only limited info from camp.As a senior this fall, Lane threw for 56 touchdowns, completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 3,740 yards. Even more incredibly, of his 319 pass attempts, only two were intercepted, none during the regular season. Not one. And his teammates and coaches are quick to note that both postseason interceptions were not his fault.
No player in the storied history of Georgia high school football has thrown for more touchdowns in a season. Not Deshaun Watson of Clemson, who topped out at 50 in 2012 at Gainesville High School. Not Hutson Mason of Lassiter High in Marietta, who set the mark with 54 in 2009 before playing at the University of Georgia.
11 is the Arizona record for TD receptions in a year shared by Austin Hill 2012, Juron Criner 2010 and 11, Mike Thomas 2007, and Theopolis Bell 1974.
