Gunnell is a 6-6, 228, Sophomore QB and the new face of Arizona football. Last year in 8 games he completed 101 passes (65% complete), 9 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD and an 1 Int. This year coaches and teammates both say Gunnell had an amazing offseason and is poised for a big year. With a young defense breaking in a new scheme the hope for Arizona football this season is Grant Gunnell and how far he can take the offense.

I like Gunnell and hope he isn't gone for good, but the only position we need filled right now is coach. Without a good coach, no player, including Gunnell, will make much difference.

After Gunnell doing a Matt Scott to start the ASU game, and being benched for a true freshman, the loss doesn't seem all that great.

I completely disagree. This year, our line never game him protection worth squat.

QBs like Gunnell are hard to come by. We need him. Hope he changes his mind.

By like Gunnell, you mean immobile with questionable arm strength? Gunnell is generally a good decision maker, but his physical tools leave a lot to be desired. If Gunnell leaving helps keep Millen, I am all for it.

Gunnell has higher potential than 90% of the QBs we've had in the past 30 years.

He'll be a Junior next year. His best football is ahead of him. Keep Grant!!

Gunnell is solid. We need solid players.

This also reminds me that Sumlin blew his redshirt for no particular reason...and we could really use players sticking around for a bit.

This year didn't count towards eligibility so I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference. Anyway, he's alright. He won't elevate the team but also won't hold the team back. I also believe he already reached his peak.

No duo is more iconic than Sumlin and mismanaging QBs. This is the guy that had both Kyler Murray AND Kyle Allen and ended up with neither of them in less than a year.

Kliff Kingsbury comes close. He chased Baker Mayfield, Michael Brewer, and Davis Webb out of town (although he got saved by Patrick Mahomes).

After we've had so many QBs with great effort, but marginal D1 capability, i have to wonder if some commenters here have been paying attention. . We finally get a guy with the goods and so many of you want to just minimize his potential loss. Ridiculous.

I feel like USC deserves a special mention. They've had a ton of 5 star QB's and Carson Palmer in 2002 is the last guy they've had who turned into a decent NFL QB.

They've had to have at least 20 QB's who were 4 and 5 stars since Palmer, and Sanchez is the only one you can make a case for as being even a competent NFL player.

True but it's not like they end up on a team already built to win with a HOF coach like Mahomes with KC.

We are talking about SC QB's going to the Bengals, Jets, Browns, Cardinals etc... That was pretty much purgatory for quite a long time.

Gunnell has talent, but I question his leadership. It's the intangibles that separate the greats from those with great talent that never reach their full potential. Maybe it's just me, but Gunnell seems like a kid that when the going got tough, he not only didn't step up, look for others to blame, and now is running away. Again, I'm judging by body language through the tv and only a limited number of games, so I fully admit there's really not enough of a sample to make a definitive statement. But from this sample, I'm not sure if Gunnell will ever reach his potential. Nothing physically missing, but something that can't be measured that I think is.

With that said, Plummer showed some potential, and stepped into an extremely difficult situation, and didn't whither. I don't think he has the measurables like Gunnell, but can certainly be a serviceable, if not more than serviceable PAC-12 QB.

Our line's pass blocking has been horrifically bad.

Apparently the rumor is that a few Arizona players are going to end up in Memphis. As an ECU fan, who plays Memphis every year, I think this is GREAT News!

Eh, don’t care that much. He wasn’t a game changer.
