Davis is a 6-3, 215, Freshman defensive lineman from Hamilton HS, Chandler, AZ. As a Senior he had 13.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss and 61 tackles. Here is Brandon Combs analysis from Arizona Desert Swarm:
His dad, Russell Davis Senior, played nine years in the NFL as a defensive tackle and won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2007.He is an absolute force coming off the edge. He isn’t the biggest weight-wise, but he is long and athletic. He uses his long arms to shed blocks or swat O-linemen’s arms away. He also uses that length to great effect while using his pass rushing moves.
Davis possesses a decent amount of speed, but it’s his explosiveness is what’s most impressive. He explodes off the snap and gets into the backfield in a hurry. This is evidenced by his almost 30 TFLs and just under 20 sacks. That explosion also gives him a strong bull rush tool to put in his toolbox.
The key for Davis will be adding some more good weight to his lean frame and keeping that explosion and speed. This should be done easily once he arrives on campus.
Coach Hunley on the commitment:
Davis's commitment announcement and interview:
99 is the total rushing yards by Jordan McCloud last year in 3 games. His 4.5 yards per carry was the best of the 3 QBs.
Countdown Notes:
As usual, "Days" will be included in the title when there is no player assigned to that number. On those days I fill in with a new player who has not yet been assigned a number or one of the coaches.
No one has ever taken me up on it, but if you want to write the profile on one of the players let me know and you can do the write-up on his day.
We have a lot of incoming talent this year, so let's start the countdown.
