Beat SE Louisiana by 41 yesterday.

Their defense seemed very quick and good last year. Will loss of the Pirate linger with them?

Big game for the U of A program. If we can pull it off in their house, I think we'll turn alot of heads.

What say you?

Beating an SEC team on the road in Year 3 of the UA football program rebuild is a tall order.

Keys to the game:

1) Eliminate the stupid penalties
2) Fix the blown coverages in the secondary
3) Smarter play by JDL...no throwing into triple coverage or trying to run through a defender

And most importantly,

4) Establish the run. I'm not talking about gashing them for 10 yarda a carry. I'm talking about just getting 3 yards consistently. We need to be able to run the ball to set up some short 3 down situations and keep the pressure off of JDL. Last year we could not run the ball at all and became offensively one-dimensional

I just hope we clean up some of the penalties we had last night. Show we're making progress and put up a good fight and I'll be happy. Not expecting a win, but it would be amazing if we could somehow pull it off.

White Out

Posted: Mon Sep 04, 2023 9:11 am
by TheCatInTheHat
MSU's going with a "white out" for our game with fans in white, white rally towels, and all-white uniforms. I guess we must have improved a little. Think I'd just stick with our first game unis: white-blue-blue. This reminds me a little of when we went down to LSU in '84 (not the blowout there in 2006.) Way back in the day, Tucson KGUN TV just picked up the feed from LSU. They had on the Arizona color commentator for their pre-game show, and they were pretty smug about everything. The game came down to Max Zendejas attempting a ridiculous 60-yard FG in the heavy air with no time on the clock in a one-point loss. We'll see how it goes this time in Mississippi. Kind of a house money game. I'm sure we'd like to make a statement with a win, but after the 22-point loss to them in Tucson last year, improvement on that margin on the road with SEC refs would at least be a step in the right direction. I'd expect a head-banging, slug-it-out struggle, but it should be a great game to see where we're at right now and to get ready for league play.

Yeah, it's funny how that works. The discussion of how even such a long FG might have conceivably been in Max's range and that we were right there at the end of a one=point game is what stuck in my mind as the important thing. Max missed one late that would have beaten Vince Dooley's last Georgia team the next season in the Sun Bowl, but that was after he hit a bomb to knock ASU out of the Rose Bowl for the second time in four years. Both probably available on YouTube.

What was funny it that when I used Chrome Twitter didn't work but videos were fine. When I used Brave browser twitter worked find and videos wouldn't show. Brave seems to be working now. I don't know what the problem is. It isn't any specific browser. Edge didn't work either. It's hard to narrow down. Some macro is causing this. And not sure of the source. I haven't figured out the right boxes to check, switches settings don't seem to make a difference. No idea what is causing this issue, but it has to be code. It is annoying when you are affected.

There are some browsers that befuddle some commercial websites on my PC. I can't use the IHG website to book rooms if not on Edge. I can only log into my portfolio manager's website on Edge. I should start a Browser Bitch sub-chapter within the OK Boomer thread.

In the Brave browser, you can click on the orange lion face right of the url box and turn the shields off. Also, if you click on the lock at the front of the url box and click on site settings, you can make several changes including "allow javascript" "allow images" etc. I imagine chrome has similar functionality to make changes

Maybe Fisch figures they'll get so fed up with it, they'll play angry when they hear it Down South.

The history of it is that Mississippi State football fans used cowbells from the 1930s until 1974, when the SEC banned them. The NCAA currently allows noisemakers, under certain conditions. In 2010, the SEC decided to allow the cowbells, based on MSU's history, and of course, the color and pageantry of college football. They are not allowed from the time the center is over the football until the play is blown dead. You may recall that Arizona at one time distributed vinyl inflatable tubes that made noise when banged together. Pac-12 then banned all artificial noisemakers. For future reference, the Big XII also put a ban on them, which impacted Oklahoma State's practice of having fans bang wooden pallets together.

This is one of the games that I think we have had targeted and I think we get one of our best efforts.

Last year DeLaura played so bad, throwing 4 picks and having or at least looking like he had no command of the offense. With a full year and another off season in the system, you just have to think he will be better.

Our lines were still undersized vs their lines last year, especially on defense. This year we match up Better. They run the 3-3-5 which In theory is a great defense against our passing attack. National pundits keep commenting on their run game average last week and our poor run totals from last year. I think we look a lot better in that category.

If De Laura has a UCLA type game, I think we win a close one 31-28.
