I imagine Colorado at Utah will have a lot more national interest than the UA/ASU game just due to Prime.

I do miss when UA/ASU was the only game on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

As expected, the Arizona Wildcats are big favorites to win the 2023 Territorial Cup.

Arizona has opened as a 10-point favorite against Arizona State, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. No over/under has been listed yet.

The Pac-12 announced last night that the Territorial Cup will kick off Saturday at 1:30 p.m. MST in Tempe on ESPN.

10 points are the most Arizona has been favored by in the Territorial Cup since being 12.5-point favorites in 2008. Arizona won that game in Tucson 31-10.

Historically, Arizona has rarely been favored to win in Tempe.

According to OddsShark’s College Football Database, there have only been three such instances since 1999, and the Wildcats have failed to cover all three of those times.

With the exception of their win over WSU, they haven't scored a ton of points. The cautionary tale would be their win at UCLA. And, it's theoretically possible their freshman QB Jaden Rashada could be healthy enough to play some against us, which would give them a different (poor man's) Jaden Daniels look. Otherwise, it's likely the swinging gate, Skattebo throwing option passes and making quick punts, fake field goals, and the rest of the kitchen sink.

Got a bad feeling about this. Not because I think we will lose as I think we are going to lay down an epic beating of these $hitheads.

My concern is they will cheap shot some of our guys and someone may get injured. I think about how hard Morgan has worked to get back and the payoff is right in front of him

I have not wanted to say that out loud, but now that you’ve brought it up…

I fear the scummies will lay Fifita out a la LSU and Tuitama. What’s 15 yards (and this time being thrown out) when you can knock out the hot hand? Not like they have to worry about missing a bowl game.

I'm confident, but not overly so.

I will never forget the 1982 U of A (5-4) vs. ASU (9-1) game - the most difficult ticket and highest intensity football crowd I ever encountered in Tucson. Larry Smith vs. Darryl Rodgers - the situation was the opposite of this week's. The 'Cats were serious underdogs, and had long operated in the Devils' shadows...

From the Daily Star:
Two days after Thanksgiving, November 27, 1982, the UA’s ascent began with one of the most dramatic football games in school history.

The Wildcats (5-4-1) were supposedly looking down the wrong end of another Sun Devil juggernaut, a 9-1 team that only needed to win in Tucson to jump into their first Rose Bowl game and further expand the competitive gulf between the rival schools.

ASU had created a revolutionary, blitz-from-everywhere defense that included future NFL standouts Vernon Maxwell, Jim Jeffcoat and Mike Richardson. The Sun Devils were 12-point favorites.

There was no telecast, live or delayed, of the game. A crowd of 58,515, which was then an Arizona Stadium record, settled in on a chilly November evening.

Walking back from the practice field Thursday night, Smith told the Tucson Citizen’s Corky Simpson and me that he wasn’t sure Arizona could beat ASU “even if we play a perfect game.”

“I’ve never seen a defense like it,” he said.

But Smith was the mastermind of three colossal upsets in his first three UA seasons. He bumped off No. 2 UCLA in 1980, shocked No. 1 USC in 1981, and took down undefeated and No. 9 Notre Dame a month earlier in South Bend, Indiana.

It wasn’t like Arizona was without talent; All-America linebacker Ricky Hunley and future NFL starters Randy Robbins, Vance Johnson and all-conference players Max Zendejas, Jeff Kiewel and David Wood populated the roster.

It was scoreless early in the second quarter when junior quarterback Tom Tunnicliffe retreated into the end zone under a typically strong ASU blitz.

“My assignment was to dump the ball off quickly when ASU blitzed,” Tunnicliffe said. “They had to leave someone open.”

Tailback Brian Holland stood alone at the 8-yard line, unguarded by the onrushing Sun Devils. Tunnicliffe tossed him the ball and Holland sprinted 92 yards for a touchdown.

In the 87 years of football at Arizona Stadium, the noise created during Holland’s long run probably set a record for decibel levels. But it would get even louder in the third quarter when nose guard Joe Drake smothered ASU tailback Darryl Clack for a safety, giving Arizona a 12-0 lead.
I was in an ASU section - only tickets I could get - and surrounded by very confident fans most of whom were carrying roses! 8-)

That 96-yard TD, and the two safeties were among the most exciting plays I've ever witnessed.

BTFD!!!!

^^^^ My freshman year - I was with my family in LA for Thanksgiving. Only home game I missed that year as I lived in Sierra dorm. The game was actually on the radio in LA because if we won, UCLA was going to the Rose Bowl.

My dad asked if I really thought we had a chance. I said yes of course! (We had attended the game the year before in SDS with some family friends who were ASU season ticket holders - hadn't made my college decision yet at that point but was an Arizona lean 😀 )

The start of The Streak. I was out of college 5 1/2 years before I experienced losing to the Scummies in football.

RB Cameron Skattebo and also WR Elijah Badger are ASU's weapons I'm worried about. Scattebo can carry a load and wear down a defense. Badger can quick strike if you blink.

Bourguet is an efficient QB who does a very good job managing a passing game when defenses focus on stopping the run. Though he's been hobbled by a lingering ankle injury, he's toughed it out.

We are the last team in the conference that can afford to overlook ASU's 3-8 season.

I think the players know what to expect. ASU has no choice but to try and turn it into a one-game season. I like our team in all phases, including their determination, and the way they've improved over the course of the season. ASU can bounce off the walls at kickoff, wag their tongues, and run Statue of Liberty plays or whatever they want, but I expect we'll see a very serious Arizona team show up with every intention of taking care of business. While we lead all-time by 5 games, one sidebar story is that the two schools have gone 22-22-1 in Pac-10/Pac-12 play, so the game this Saturday will be the rubber game of the series prior to joining the Big XII.

BTFD!!!!
I was sitting in the ASU endzone that game and watched Clickedy Clack get stuffed. I had driven down with a good friend that was and still is an ASU fan. We had come in his car. He was so livid I was checking my resources to see if I had enough to take the bus back to Phoenix.

Stellar nugget of info. Let’s go out on top.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

My dad asked if I really thought we had a chance. I said yes of course! (We had attended the game the year before in SDS with some family friends who were ASU season ticket holders - hadn't made my college decision yet at that point but was an Arizona lean 😀 )

The start of The Streak. I was out of college 5 1/2 years before I experienced losing to the Scummies in football.
Same with me Eebs. I went back home to LA for Thanksgiving and could only listen to the game on radio which I did in my backyard while shooting hoops.
